I'm curious, Chris. That's some real heavy ink on his face. Will the laser or vanish get rid of this for him? Are there other options out there that can remove this efficiently? Costs incorporated with doing so?

yes, I've seen much heavier ink removed with both laser and Tattoo Vanish. It's doable but it's an intense process to remove this much work.

When you go in/call around to tattoo shops ask if they have anyone who specializes in Pe'a (traditional Samoan tattoo) or lacework inspired tattoos. This seems to be the direction you're going. Bring copies of these pics and NEVER get tatted without looking at an artist's portfolio... Lesson learned THE HARD WAY with some of my janky tattoos Hope this helps

Coming from a tattoo artist you would need to go to new Zealand to find someone who specializes the art of Pe`a which uses a chisel made of either Shark teeth or volcanic glass and a stick tapping method also it's a far drive to find anyone who does predominately tattoos Polynesian style ...lol anyways modern tattooing is more precise .Hit me up for appointments 209 390 6172
