I have a 5th grade student who is very bright, but apparently has a bad case of Type I ADD. Does anyone know of a doctor in Chiang Rai who handles such patients? ...
Clark S. replied:
Behavioral therapy is the first line of action. That to me means placing the student in the front row, giving him more attention. As far as diet goes, how to you take rice and sugar out of the diet in Thailand? I've cut down on it in my diet, but given up on trying to get brown rice instead of white rice, and cut down on sugar (especially in drinks). Anyway, like everything, you need to read like crazy and get as many opinions as sources of knowledge as you can, then go from there.
Linda R. replied:
Clark, I might suggest that you go online to Mayo Clinic in the USA. They are at the top of the latest, least invasive treatments for such conditions. I agree with Joseph Phong to avoid all drugs. They may make your student worse. Good Luck, Linda Ross
Lakshmi P. replied:
Clark Scarborough perhaps he needs a counsellor more than a doctor as his problem is more associated with distractability according to what is described as inattentive ADHD. It also adds that there is no single diagnosis for this disorder that might affect children and adults.

Our son has delay talking and kind of lack of concentration. Last year we visited doctor at Ram hospital for consulting for whats he behind/delay for kid in the same age. Then she adviced us to go to Kid Plus; which is has a lot of specialised teachers for the kids in this category. But this place is in Chiangmai but it's very useful. I see many kids with a very bad condition and those teachers know how to deal with them.

I know it's far, but I took my son to Bumrungrad hospital in Bangkok where the doctor there specializes in cases like this. She was amazing and spent a LOT of time with him and with us. She did prescribe Ritalin, which has DEFINITELY helped him. I would be also interested, though, if there was anyone here in Chiang Rai because I have to go and collect his medicine every 3 months....

Think there is one at Sriburin hospital and that's all I know.

Sandy, One of my students is the dermatologist at CRRH and he has a clinic open until 9PM at the the intersection near Condotel. I have also been to the doctors at Sibirin. Their office is at Sibirin Hospital to the left of the main entrance doors beside the coffee shop. They removed my basal cell carcinoma a few weeks ago and also treated me for a fungus I picked up somewhere. I recommend either of these offices. They all speak English.
Is there a western doctor in CR? I keep going to different doctors at overbrook and getting lost in translation.
Andrew B. replied:
Dr subin at Casemrad Sriburin hospital. Fluent in English and really amazing. He listens and takes his time. He has his own clinic too from 5pm every week day. Way cheaper than the hospital. Staff at sriburin aren't too bad with English. We've been going there since we arrived in CR.
Andrew B. replied:
Apologies for not posting this sooner but here are the directions. From the police station heading towards the Kings Monument. The two lane dual Road becomes a "four" lane one direction close to the Monument. Keep to the right hand side of the split where the mid-island begins. Dr Subin practice is on the right with a big Green sign board.
Mary G. replied:
Go to Sebriean hospital. They are kind and courteous and speak English.

If you want your husband to be in the room with you, it's not possible in Chiang Rai... you will have to go to Chiang Mai. If you are going to have a c-section though, he cannot be in the room at either Chiang Rai or Chiang Mai.
I am coming again with a question, sorry, for that .. but .. can you recommend a good hospital/doctor in Chiang Rai for doing some blood tests and kidney and gynecology...
