I have stayed on Ambergris Caye a few years back. It was very beautiful, however, there really is no beach for you to sit and relax. Belize is home to the second largest great barrier reef. This reef contains all the trash that winds up on the shore line, which is pretty much the beach. Also, this reef keeps the sharks (nurse sharks) close to the shore as well. I never walked into the water at the shore, too much glass and trash and then...the shark fins everywhere. The excursions are great and it really is a beautiful place, I just do not recommend Ambergris Caye myself. Also, another post mentioned about a safety concern too...the main city, Belize City, is where the airplanes arrive, it is also a very high murder rate in that main city. There are really some wonderful people there and I did have a great time, especially the Maya ruins...that was well worth the trip!!! If you go, typically your guides are quite helpful in telling you where and where not to go as for safety. Wish you the best in locating a place to stay to see the blue hole (I didn't have time to go see it)
