We are meeting friends who are calling in to Malaga on a cruise this month and want to go out for lunch in Malaga, has anyone got any favourite restaurants they could...

There's a Michelin starred restaurant right in the newly refurbished port area - Michael Soffe could probably recommend some others ;) http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g187438-d2490769-Reviews-Restaurante_Jose_Carlos_Garcia-Malaga_Costa_del_Sol_Province_of_Malaga_Andalucia.html

Lol - sadly not Angela (although always hoping my lottery ticket might come up on Tuesday!) I actually believe it is very good value for money compared to the Michelin starred restaurants in other places like the UK (won't even mention what we paid at Le Manoir of Raymond Blanc or The Fat Duck of Heston Blumenthal!). Not a weekly occurrence as Tamara Essex explained in her post - but if one can save enough centimos for a special occasion.

Very up market that one is . Maybe 90 a head for tasting menu, if you looking upmarket but maybe more reasonable then try La Moraga. Just walk from ship. Looking out to sea, it's left of port. If you walking from cruise terminal walk right along beachfront and you will see white building, http://www.lamoraga.com/wp/malaga-antonio-martin/

Thank you for the kind words above Tamara on our tapas tours! Just in case any of you think we might be of interest in the future here is a link to our website : www.tapasinmalaga.com

Jose Carlos Garcia is a fab experience - that's the Michelin star one. Yes about €90 for tasting menu but that means 15 courses, some small others normal, so you get LOADS over a long period of time and you certainly aren't hungry! Of course it's not somewhere to pop on a weekly basis, but as a special, memorable experience, it is unbeatable:-)

Sorry - late to this thread (been a bit busy!!) José Carlos Garcia is without doubt the best restaurant in Malaga in my opinion - allow about 150€ a head including wine and IVA. A fabulous experience every time I have been there. La Moraga has lost something in the last couple of years since Dani Garcia (2 Michelin Stars in his old restaurant in Marbella - Calima - new one opening in April in Puente Romano hotel!!). I have two real favourites in Malaga - Asako on Calle Alamos - fusion of Asian/Spanish cuisine that is intriguing and can you believe it - an Italian restaurant on Calle Strachan - Osteria Pastrani - a truly amazing young Spanish Chef! Now just to throw a spanner in the works - if your friends are visiting Malaga for a day do you really want to be in a restaurant for 2 or 3 hours (Maybe they already know Malaga and if so then not a problem, but if they don't.....). Although I am almost fully booked for March, April and May (many cruise passengers too!) you might consider one of our Gourmet Tapas Tours (we are currently rated number one on trip advisor for food and drink in Malaga and number 2 of all attractions). We are just a little bit different ;-) and SO much more than just a tapas tour (our tapas are VERY different too!) I am sure Tamara Essex Petra Lenstra and Caroline Treasure who are all members of this forum would be happy to give you their feedback.
