We've had really good luck with used certified pre-owned cars (CPO) from Nissan. I guess you'll need to keep checking back.

I had a really good experience with Vantage Motors in Raytown a couple of years ago. Alas, when I got in touch with them last winter it did not go so well. I ended up going elsewhere. Looks like they're low on inventory right now. Last time I was shopping I ended up looking at a couple of different cars at a lot in Pleasant Hill called Allen Auto Sales. I didn't end up buying there, but they seemed to have some pretty decent prices on basic daily driver kind of cars.

Hi, it would help to know a little more about what you are looking for: New car, used car that is a couple of years old, older used car or something to get you from point a to point b. Definitely stay away from Killeen.
happysnappah replied:
Little bit of a drive, but Eakin Kia in Killeen are seriously the best people. My husband's car crapped out on us right as my little girl got hit by a car and was in McLane's in ICU. Having to travel down there every day plus have kids here for school and all we needed to replace our car fast. I talked to a bunch of dealerships who all pulled typical bullshit time-wasting dealership crap, but Dennis Eakin Kia offered to bring cars to the hospital for me to test drive and when I finally did buy, I stressed to them that I needed to to not spend hours there. I was in and out in 30 minutes. They called a few months later to see how she (the girl, not the car) was doing.
nreppep replied:
No where in Waco, but I like Hertz Car Dealership of Irving (any of them are good though). They sell their cars after 35 k miles or one year, so they’re all super new, and they give you the lowest no-haggle price you can find. Usually below KKB. I got a 2015 Yaris in 2016 for around $8 k out the door.
evil_con_carne replied:
Definitely not Greg May Honda. They fucked me on the number of miles the car had versus what it said in the title-almost a 1,000 mile difference. They took like 4 months getting my plates and other paperwork. Oh, and to top it all off their dickhead financing guy tried to sucker me into a 17% apr loan after the original financing we had already agreed to "fell through." I ended up getting a loan from my bank. Unfortunately, I was too young, ignorant, and excited about buying my first car to stand up for myself better but I take any opportunity I can to bad mouth them.

I personally had a GREAT experience with [Carvana](https://www.carvana.com). Found the car I wanted from a huge online inventory.... it was even priced a little under [Kelly Blue Book](https://www.kbb.com) fair market value. I was offered instant financing with zero money down and a decent/affordable interest rate (considering my less than fabulous credit) The car was delivered two days later via flatbed truck. It was exactly as advertised... I had 7 days or 400 miles to decide if I liked the car... and had the option of exchanging it twice (if necessary). Personally, I will never ever use a traditional car dealership again. Carvana was the best!

I have purchased multiple vehicles from Off Lease Only (multiple locations). I have held on to cars from them for years and never had any issues out of the ordinary. They buy all their cars "off lease" so they most are 1-3 years old with low mileage. You can search their website for what you are looking for - they have lots of filters to narrow your search and carry all brands. They have Carfax for many of their vehicles, which you can review online. Some cars still have warranty left. They fully disclose and are easy to work with. No frills, no bullshit.
I recommend going online to pick out a few cars you want to see in person (make sure they're at the same location) then go in person to test drive and finish the deal.
Not sure about their current COVID procedures though, you might need an appointment or something.

just figure out a make model and year you want then send emails to like 20 dealers saying "i want this make model year, the lowest price dealership gets my sale." then you take the lowest ~3 and email the rest "dealership X offered $yyyyy --- can you beat this?" and keep doing that until they all drop out, and then you have the lowest price.
FlyingFist_OnDemand replied:
Honest? You must be joking. Car dealerships in itself is a theft ring. We don't call it stealership for no reason. Put S.FL on top of that, it's best of the best. To be honest, it's all about your negotiating skill. Are you good at it? If not, pay a little more at those no negotiating places like Carvanan/Offleaseonly and leave out the hassle. If you know what you're doing and can haggle, you can get a better deal than the places I've mentioned. To point you in a direction, Miami Car Credit....I have never bought a car from them before but have a few friends that got a good deal from them. Like I said, are you good with negotiating?
TheRealJDubb replied:
Honest car dealer - hahahahaha. You will never get value at a used car dealer. They know how to conceal defects temporarily. If the price is good, something is wrong. If you want a decent used car at a good price, find one for sale on Craigslist, eBay, Facebook market, or cars.com. Buy only from the original owner and see the car at their house. Look around ... Do they keep the yard nice? If so, they probably changed the oil. Take a mechanic friend if you have one, and subscribe to carfox so you can run the vin to check against and wrecks that discharged the airbags. This is the only way to find a value price on a decent car.

It's up to the dealer, but seeing how things are now, second best would be asking for no markup but no discount for the rebate too.
jimsd replied:
My suggestion is to expand your search. I couldn't get any of the SD dealers to negotiate on the markup last year, so we ended up getting one in Costa Mesa where they at least cut the markup in half. Use the spreadsheet found elsewhere in the subreddit to see which dealers are getting Primes and also check [cargurus.com](https://cargurus.com) or [cars.com](https://cars.com) (cargurus seemed better for this area). Try checking out Temecula, I think I've seen some people getting better deals up there.
RedElmo65 replied:
I doubt it. The leasing company will keep the credit. In March 2018 I was not able to get GM to pass the $7500 credit to me. Resulting in my bolt lease to be $350 a month! Previously 2014 Fiat 500 e and 2015 VW eGolf I got $7500 built into the lease.
Lucky_Boy13 replied:
Just as a side, you can lease a Bolt dirt cheap these days and if a Costco member get another $3 k off this month. As far as I know Toyota is not rolling the $7500 into the lease on Primes and only subsidizes the money factor to near zero which doesn’t save you that much
Ssnugglecow replied:
I bought at Toyota of Escondido a few weeks ago. The only markup they had was for the security system. That was essentially their markup. I don’t know if it’s the dealership not doing the markup or the guy I worked with. Try Shawn Skinner (internet sales manager) and see what he can do for you. They will do the $1500 rebate at point of sale. So that at least covers the security system markup. Then you have the $1000 clean vehicle rebate. There’s a special code for military to use when applying for this rebate if you have an out of state license. Source: also military family. Edit: I can’t remember the specifics on the rebates for leases. Sorry.

Define cheap - your budget is going to determine a lot. A dealer like Carmax is going to have quality vehicles, well curated, with a return window, warranty, etc. - but you won't find much there under $10K.

One thing I will recommend is to still check out large dealerships as well. Rather than seek out a specific dealership I would follow these steps: * Search autotrader.com or cargurus.com for a historically reliable model in your price range. Such as a Corolla, Camry, Prius, Civic, Accord, CR-V, Fit, or Mazda 3. You could pick up a copy of Consumer Reports that focuses on used cars to help with research. * Test drive it * Before buying the car, take it to a trusted mechanic in your area (not the dealership) for a "pre-purchase inspection." I would expect this to cost less than $100.

Best place for used car? Friend or family that will give you a good deal on a car that you’ve ridden in and know won’t give you any problems. I wouldnt trust craigslist, like someone else said; sure there’s a diamond in the rough in there somewhere, but why wouldn’t that person also list it for sale on a more reputable and auto-specific site? I would definitely check all the big websites - cars, cargurus, edmunds, autotrader. they’ll have the most inventory listed for easy browsing. If you’re looking for some kind of guaranty or warranty or return policy, I would stick to more mainstream/corporate dealers, not the small time local ones where nearly everything is sold “as is”. There are some bigger used car dealers in the area (Adams is a big one I drive by daily, never been tho) which may not have listings on those sites. Price is relative, cheap for you may not be cheap for me., but To save a little money, sometimes it can pay to find a car that’s sold outside of Charlotte, in a neighboring county. Never feel pressured by salesman, if you feel weird, just walk away and tell them you’ll come back later
I’ll tell you, it’s hard to just “buy a car” and get something good if you don’t know what you want. If you’re just looking for any old car that runs, go to a lot and just pick one. But you may find your online search goes a lot more efficiently if you have a general idea - like “an American 2 row suv” or “The best quality Honda Accord sedan I can find for $Xxx”, will help you trim down your likely hundreds/thousands of search results.

anarchonobody replied:
I *sold* my cheap junker car here 2 years ago for $500. I bought a newer car and just wanted to get the old junker off my hands. It was a manual Nissan sentra that actually ran, but it was in bad condition, and I wouldn't have trusted it for anything more than going to get groceries (where, if it broke down, I wouldn't be stranded in the middle of nowhere). The radio didn't work, no a/c, a gaping hole in the trunk, cracked windshield, you had to grind the gears to get it in reverse, and it had crazy wheel hop whenever I accelerated on any kind of wet pavement that caused the whole car to veer to the right when accelerating. My point is (I guess), that it's possible to find something that would work, but definitely go through Craigslist or Facebook. I don't think there's a dealer alive that would've taken my Nissan and tried to sell it, and if there is, they would be a very disreputable dealer unless they sold it as "for parts only". Having said that, I know the Honda Dealer in Savoy has cars like that all the time, but, they are almost never lower than $1500.
