I found mine through [psychologytoday.com](https://psychologytoday.com) you can search by zip code and what issues you're working on. I saw two different therapists before finding one that felt right. Best of luck

Integrated Behavior Health on Poydras. They have therapists and psychiatrists. Also, they accept most insurance.

What kind of alternative lifestyle we talking about here, homie? Y'know, just so I could recommend the best therapist.
Can anybody recommend a good therapist / psychologist? Do any of y'all have a therapist to recommend in the New Orleans area? I'm looking for a psychologist to help me...
WhoAreYouWhoAmI replied:
My sympathies. I'm currently looking for a psychiatrist for some similar reasons. I'm too much of a coward to ask for referrals IRL (even though half my co-workers are unabashedly on happy pills), so I'm probably just going to be pick one at random and see how it goes. I'll let you know if I stumble upon a good one.

Hey man, I feel your pain. If you need somebody to talk to or hang im around town in the quarter and marigny/bywater most of the time. Im no therapist but I got a good ear. We could have a drink or what have you or not. Its your call and I can give you my number if need be. Best of wishes.

Do you have insurance or are there any specific people you're considering? I have friends who've gone to Jennifer Engel on Prytania and really liked her.

There are a few psych firms and independent practitioners in the building I work in/manage. If you're looking for a larger firm, Pelts, Kirkhart, & Associates seems to be pretty good, they always have quite a few clients coming through and everyone I've met from their firm is really nice. If you're looking for just one psychologist on her own, there's a woman named Leslie O'Malley who practices in the same building.

Dr. Arnold James at Tulane is effin incredible. been doing psychology for over 20 years in new orleans. worked with him multiple times and was constantly impressed by him. he's a psychologist working out of the Dept. of Psychiatry at the school of medicine. to be honest, i only know that he does in-patient services but you could certainly call and find out. http://www.everydayhealth.com/doctors/dr-arnold_h_james_ms_phd-3962185
My wife and I recently lost our Son, he died at 6 hours old about 5 months ago. [Pictures of Zane](http://www.vicarisite.com). We had been trying to have a baby for several years and didn't know anything was wrong until about 2 weeks before he was born. My wife has also been very depressed and she went to several counselors before settling on one who she thinks helps her the most. I went to several of the sessions and nothing religious was ever mentioned.
My wife says she never talks about religion, it's just where she works is called that.
I hope you are able to get some help, I know that talking to someone can really do that. My wife is much better, but still really sad often, but sometimes you just can't help it. Sometimes it just takes time.
EDIT: I PMed you the info.

I am a Licensed Master of Social Work and have experience working with clients with a similar background. Finding a good therapist is hard work, not to mention the wait once you do find one is about 3 months. Most people in need of help do not want to wait 3 months, so maybe side therapy would be beneficial until you can secure an appointment with a psychologist. Feel free to contact me if you are in need of help connecting with resources in your area or if you have any questions or concerns that I could possibly help you with in the mean time.

I only saw her a few times because of insurance stuff, but Lynn Koch is great. I can pm you her number. If you have crappy/no insurance, Tulane Mental Health Clinic is good. There residents, but they're supervised by psychiatrists and the one I see is wonderful. I can find that number for you too if you're interested. Recommendations are helpful, but it really depends on the individual and how you connect with them. Someone who is great for me might not be great for you. If you don't click right away, keep trying. Good luck.

Dr. John P. Vogel was my shrink a few years back (after a major medical incident that almost killed me) and I had a really good experience with him. I was 21 - 23 at the time.

I wouldn't say cowardly. You don't really have anything to gain by using your main reddit name and you obviously don't want the extra attention (I know my depression drives me into isolation a lot...as well as other stupid things).

Does anyone know a good therapist and/or psychiatrist for a really wonderful college freshman at Tulane--anywhere in New Orleans, but ideally close to school?
I know the search function on reddit isn't so great, so probably you just missed this [thread](http://www.reddit.com/r/NewOrleans/comments/17392 v/affordable_mental_health_services/) a few days ago. There is some good information accumulated there. If you're looking for something more specific, let me know.

Does anyone know of a good psychiatrist/therapist in the New Orleans/Metairie area?
rustbeltventures replied:
Gregory Salerian is a really good therapist out of New Orleans, his office is off Tchoup. He's a younger, down to earth guy and is the first therapist I've talked to that I felt like I could talk to like a normal person. He likes to add some positive physical element to therapy (walking/running) and focuses on treating stress related issues and dependency issues.
pearlsnvodka replied:
Emily DeLeonardo at Ochsner is a nurse practitioner, but absolutely wonderful and more knowledgeable than any other psychiatrist I have worked with. She’s always responsive to calls and emails, usually within a matter of hours. It’s pretty easy to get appointments with her right now, as well.

I've had good experiences at Cognitive Behavioral Therapy on Magazine. It has a couple of bad Google reviews, but Dr. Tomassetti was supremely professional and helpful to me.

I do indeed! Integrated Behavior Health on Poydras has amazing doctors, both therapists and psychiatrists. Dr. Lawrence is an excellent psychiatrist there. Dr. McDermott is a great therapist, who specializes in trauma, but also does general therapy. I cannot recommend IBH strongly enough. If your insurance covers them, or if money is not an issue, go there. I also really like Jennie Walsh. She's a licensed clinical social worker, so I think she's good at addressing more everyday issues, like anxiety and depression. Very nice lady and she works with you and your insurer, if money is kind of an issue.
