I'd start right here. It's unlikely you need a "planner". It's a small body of knowledge. Start by browsing the FAQ. Post your financial details (income, expenses, assets, debts, goal) and questions. There are some great investing books out there too.

The free advice here is probably your best option. It doesn't hurt to interview several financial planners to and see if any of them are people you can work with. A good financial planner is pretty hard to find as you need to be able to trust them to some degree. Try to find one that is fee only ($100/hr for example), whose net worth is at least half a million (so many aren't worth $1), and is someone you can trust. Best of Luck.
