I really like Alpha Tailor on Rivington between Essex and Norfolk. He's cash only but he's inexpensive and very good

There's a tailor in the basement of the Chrysler building (in the connection to Grand Central) who is phenomenal. Try her out.

This is where my husband has been going for 15+ years -- http://www.wilfredstailor.com/. They're fabulous. They also have a guy in-store that does custom suits. A colleague had a few suits made there that he's happy with (and look good). Husband gets his suits and shits made from a Thai tailor that comes to Manhattan a few times a year. For our wedding, he got his tux made at Martin Greenfield in Brooklyn. Truly an amazing guy, great service and quality.

I have to say, I've probably visited all of the tailors in that tailor area in LES, and the quality of work has always been subpar. My go-to guy is Alba Tailors. A little more expensive, but damn if he doesn't have a great eye for fit, and is efficient and excellent. I bring all my jeans to him to be hemmed and tapered, my dresses to be fitted, my leather jacket to be cleaned and conditioned- and he will redo it again until it's perfect.

Check out Paul Stuart - a classic menswear store on Madison and 45 th. They do both custom and made to measure, though you just missed their made to measure event. Their website has a good page on their tailored clothing options: https://www.paulstuart.com/tailor-made

I've brought two different suits and a pair of pants here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/alteration-shop-new-york?utm Guy was really helpful in getting the for right and letting me know how the suit should fit and what needed to be corrected and what was better off left alone in case i grew a bit more. I will say the complaints that he didn't have stuff ready when he said he would were correct. He had finished the jacket but totally forgot about the pants the first time I went back. For shirts, I just go to Charles Tyrwhit, their extra slim fit line fits great and they always have 3 for $100 sales. Quality of most fabrics is great.

Thanks for the feedback all, I ended up with a place on 47 th and 2 nd (NYC Diplomat Outfitters?). Slightly higher price than I would have paid at suitsupply, but overall not breaking the bank terribly.
anybody have any recommendations on a good tailor? I need someone outstanding to alter a dress.
