Kermit N. replied:
The name was taken from Bill Anderson's hit song Po Folks, but he did not own it and originally was going to use sue of use of the name. However, they reached an agreement and he became a spokesman for the company. The company was bought by Krystal Ham burgers, but went bankrupt in 1988. The restaurants in operation now are not the original Po Fokls. With the exception of the one in St Petersburg, the chains other 7 restaurants are in the Panhandle area of Florida and S Alabama. Owed by a company based in Panama City.
Dick W. replied:
If you like catfish, Po Folks in St Pete has a catfish "on the bone" that is out of sight. Very lightly breaded, it is the juiciest catfish you will ever eat. It is not a filet, it is a whole catfish (minus the head). Absolutely delicious.
Elizabeth F. replied:
That Po Folks in St. Pete has specials that are AYCE fish in Fridays, chicken fried steak on Saturdays, fried chicken on Sundays. It includes the veggie sides, which are also excellent.
