Roaches I live in an apartment in Scarborough that recently has gotten a big cockroach problem, specifically the german roach. I noticed them at night time when i would...

Quality roach bait isn't for sale in Canada. Look for Advion gel on eBay or Amazon.com and apply it every week or two for a couple of weeks. There's a lot of videos on how to properly apply it (best tip is to use painter's tape and put the gel on that to make clean up and re-application a breeze). # I had a bad roach problem when I moved in to my apartment and haven't seen any in years.

http://www.cleaningsupply.ca/index.html This place at Jane and Dundas sells Maxforce Roach Gel. It's going to be the most effective of all the available options, from my experience anyway. To kill them on-sight Raid has always worked for me, but yeah the move is to soak them and then crush them with the bottom of the can.

They will begin to avoid the boric acid after awhile. Mix together the boric acid with a boiled potato and some flour. Form into small balls and place them along walls, in drawers, etc. They will eat this and carry it back to the nest. Which will eventually start to kill the colony. I had a problem with roaches for a while, did the above mix along with caulking all cracks and holes. Have not had any issues since

Have you spoken with your landlord about it? We had a similar issue but down town and it really only went away when we got new neighbours on both sides — neighbours who cared as much as we did. We all had the landlord treat for the roaches and the neighbours who were the source requested fumigation. We’ve been roach-free for a number of years now!

If they're in your building, anything you do in your own unit is slapping a bandaid on the problem. Your landlord needs to have professional pest control done in the entire building to remove the roaches. Call 311 if your landlord doesn't fix the problem.

It's less direct, but imho the caulking of seams you've already done, plus putting everything in your kitchen into plastic, is going to do a lot more good than self-directed acid and poison. Unfortunately the more roaches you have the longer it will take their population to decline. Disgustingly, they eat the dead bodies of other roaches, so the infestation can hang on for a while. A good canister vac with a bag so you don't spread any eggs by mistake, and religiously cleaning twice a day will help. Also don't forget to completely remove your drawers as you clean. Behind the fridge and oven are other big spots.
One of the hardest parts with infestations in apartments, is it's really a whole building thing, not a by-unit problem. Eventually every building in the city has roaches, bedbugs, etc come in. People often don't report because of the stigma involved, but I can guarantee if you're struggling, there's likely another unit near you that is swarming with them and a resident who's less capable of taking care of them. You need to make sure the building funds pest control and has a policy to treat all surrounding units on a pest detection. This is one job that you really want professionals to handle, because many of the poisons you buy at the store might just make them scatter, and there's a good chance other residents are doing similar things as you.

former superintendent here for a very large apartment building that was roach infested.
I know you're not going to want to hear this but anything you do yourself is just throwing money down the drain. The stuff you can buy is ideal for houses that aren't attached. with a house it's fairly easy to get rid of roaches once you find out how/where they're getting in. in buildings it's a crap shoot. You can be the literal son/daughter of Mr. Clean himself and clean your place daily, top to bottom, and while it'll help for a week or so they'll still get in. why? your neighbours.
And I'm not talking your immediate next door neighbours, sure they could be the problem, but also the ones that live above you, below you, adjacent do you, 3 floors down or above you. If they maintain a shit hole of an apartment, don't clean, and are infested then you and your neighbours are automatically infested too.
You can talk to your landlord/property manager and if they're decent they SHOULD have a pest control company on retainer. the building I worked at had a guy come EVERY SINGLE WEEK to deal with roaches and that company was making bank off of us. 10+ apartments a week would be sprayed, sometimes multiple times a year. But all it takes is for one or two apartments to be infested, not say anything, and boom the whole building is full of them.
You can control the infestation by cleaning a lot, using bleach to clean your floors etc but you'll never truly "once and for all" get rid of them. sorry :(

I have found that sticky traps work well in traffic areas. You can buy a box of then on Amazon. Another treatment that worked well were black bait boxes. They look like ant traps but bigger.

Boric acid did not help for me. Buy advion gel on eBay and catchmaster at Canadian Tire. Put some sugar on the catchmaster as it attracts the roaches. I also spray my sink with disinfectant every ight. I sometimes find dead roaches on the floor.
