Since I am a penny pincher, I use local universities programs to do legal work for me. I would look there, see if your locals have any programs for entrepreneurs. Usually it is free but depending on how many people signed up can take a while.

Most large startup-focused firms will defer fees until you've raised seed capital, although you'll need some sort of intro (via an accelerator or someone legit) so that they believe you are credible.

A lot of basic business resources, including coaching is available from the Small Business Administration (SBA). It's free because our taxes pay for it. They do have a mentor program called SCORE, where they pair you with a retired executive to wall you through stuff.

It's worth starting to build a relationship with a good attorney/firm early as you will need to utilize there services many times over the life of your business. Additionally, you always want to have that relationship in place before you need them for when litigation/cease and desists etc evitably pop up (in tech especially imo).

Slightly off tangent: If anyone is reading this before starting out and not working solo, I'd recommend hashing out some of these details BEFORE you do any work with co-founders. Many have been burned before, I have too. Disagreements in ownership percentages, ego, IP can easily crop up before you even get your first set of customers.

Check out UpCounsel.com, might be pricier than LegalShield but they have a blog. RocketLawyer.com more economical, also has articles.
TechIsSoCool replied:
Try SCORE (https://www.score.org/), they are retired businesspeople who mentor. Or try SBA (https://www.sba.gov/) they have several resources. You may find enough info to answer your own questions. If you really need a lawyer, bite the bullet and spend the money. It can be worth it. Read reviews before you do though (e.g.: https://www.lawyer.com/index.php).

LegalShield. So cheap it seems fake. Note: It's not directed specifically at startup law or incorporations.

http://www.sos.ca.gov/business/llc/forms/llc-1.pdf There's a very good chance that if you're asking this question that form is exactly what you need. Going forward it's prolly more important to find a good CPA then a lawyer.

You may need to see a real estate attorney. Please call Brett Thompson at 757-486-3333. Tell him you are friends of ours and that you need some help. Fax or email him the deed and tell hin what's going on. He's not expensive and is good at writing letters to "inform" your neighbors what their rights are not!
