We're about to head to Memphis is a little over a week for a few day trip & I'm a little nervous about the "safeness" of it all. Where are the best places to find hotels...

We stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Midtown Memphis. It is near the hospital there. Also, there are several hotels in the Germantown area. I really depends on what your plans are when you get there.

Hotels east of town, towards Germantown, are safer if less convenient. Besides Graceland and Beale Street there is the Sun Studios tour worth a few hours. We went to Beale Street at night and parked in a garage a block away and it was fine, but I wouldn't wander farther than that downtown at night. You're maybe 30 miles north of a bunch of casinos if you want to try your luck there. I've heard the zoo is a good one, but have never been there.

Visit the Peabody hotel, the River Walk, the huge bass pro shop that's in the giant triangular shaped building, eat at central BBQ or Memphis BBQ company. The zoo is nice. I spent 6 months in the hospital there getting a liver transplant almost 4 years ago. I have been back many times since. Don't let stuff scare you away, every town has its bad areas and dangers but the people are nice and the food is good! Enjoy yourself! Lots of cool stuff to do.
