OK, anyone with Fibromyalgia into holistic medicine? I know it can be expensive, but I'm ready to make sacrifices because I'm done with doctors and medications!
I could...
What natural treatment of fibromyalgia does Dr. Weil recommend? The following lifestyle changes: Exercise. Regular exercise has proven one of the best treatments. Although muscle pain may worsen during exercise, the pain usually dissipates within 30 minutes. Stretching and low-impact aerobic activity (swimming, walking, yoga, or using cardiovascular machines like stationary bikes or elliptical trainers) are often the most effective. Regular sleeping habits. This is critical for reducing pain and improving energy and mood. Relaxation techniques. Meditation, yoga or breath work can help counteract stress. Cognitive-behavioral therapy. To learn how to cope better with symptoms and stress. Acupuncture or massage. Both are often helpful in relief of whole-body systemic conditions. The Feldenkrais Method. To correct poor posture or habits of movement that may contribute to pain. Nutrition and Supplements A diet rich in organic fruits, vegetables, and whole grains can fortify your body's natural defenses and healing system. Eliminate polyunsaturated vegetable oils, margarine, vegetable shortening, all partially hydrogenated oils, and all foods (such as deep-fried foods) that might contain trans-fatty acids. Use extra-virgin olive oil as your principal fat. Increase intake of omega-3 fatty acids. Eat ginger and turmeric regularly for their anti-inflammatory effects. In addition to a daily antioxidant regimen, take 250 mg of magnesium and 500-700 mg of calcium daily to help relax and maintain nerves and muscles. (However, Dr. Weil does not recommend calcium supplements for men.) Boswellia and malic acid may also be beneficial.
Can anyone recommend a good doctor in the Jacksonville Florida area? My father has made it through physical therapy but is still experiencing a lot of pain & fatigue...
Andrea D. replied:
Emily, are you looking for a neurologist? I live in Jacksonville (Regency/Southside area) and the onset of my GBS was just over a year ago. Dr. Alan Berger is at Shands Jacksonville (teaching hospital assoc w Univ of Florida) and is a specialist in peripheral neuropathy, having authored several articles on CIDP. I have an appt with him for Jan 10 to review my case. Currently, I see a doctor at the Beaches location of Baptist Neurology as well as a pain mgmt specialist and orthopedic spine specialist (I have low back issues that weren't fixed by surgery last summer). My pain doctor really knows his stuff and everyone at the office (minus the receptionist) is extremely thorough w a good demeanor, but after waiting two hours to see him last month, he basically said that my pain may just be in my head. I don't think he's handled very many GBS patients before, so I'm in the process of trying to get a new pain doc. How long has your Dad been fighting this? I am continuing to undergo PT 2 x/week from an amazing therapist. If it is decided that further therapy could benefit your Dad and the area of town would work for you, I couldn't recommend my PT any more highly (he used to manage one of the Brooks Rehab outpatient centers until opening his own practice at the beginning of Nov). There are also the doctors and staff associated with the branch of Mayo Clinic here, however, I don't have any experience there other than having spent about 8 months working as a billing clerk several years ago. I hope this helps, and if there are any further questions I can try to answer for you, please do not hesitate to ask.
Needs to find a doctor that will do blood work for my thyroid. I know Bernard will but really don't want to spend $600 for an appointment. Any suggestions?

Do not go to Bernard please I can tell u tons of reasons why. Dr. Shaunessy on kingsley is really good he git my mom and dad straightened out after Bernard.

I have the same tests ran every 6 months without insurance also. Clay County Chamber of Commerce will do it for 50$ but I think you have to be a resident of Clay. Quest will also just do the tyroid test...call them for details:)
Heather K. replied:
I saw Dr. Weise behind Publix on 17 by San Juan, forgot the name of that area, but he is great, owns a health food store and a compound pharmacy, will probably cost $300 for appt. and follow up with results.
