What are the names of the local Dance Bands and local Band Members that you can remember that played "live" dance music at the dances? What are your memories of that...

We followed the Gents wherever they played. I remember the concert they played at Orem High after they won the National Battle of the Bands in 1967. We went almost every week to see the Todes at the Steelworkers Union Hall. There is a website for local rock and roll bands and members. It is www.utahvalleyrockers.com. It seems that there was a group called Benny and the Beermen in the 60's. One of the members may have been Ben Behrman.

That is too funny ! I was in a band in 65-66 with Kent Ostler on Rhythm Guitar and Alan Black on Drums. We had a couple different bass players. One was Ross Housekeeper and another was Mike Jacques. I think Pete Jenkins might have jammed with us on bass too. We were together until I broke my finger playing football my Junior year....ouch. What a bummer. Had a lot of fun playing those gigs we did though. Alan Black was just starting with keyboards but the rest is history. Our group name was "Rogue Male". Go figure. Kent came up with that. Really miss him. What a blast we had though....good times.

My memory isn't the greatest of who I knew in High School. I did know the Gents members pretty well thru our friendships and if course the music which mostly was a lot of Beatles and other English Invasion stuff plus the Paul Revere stuff we really got excited about. Stones, Animals, etc....I also had a brother, Ray who got quite a bit more involved in the 70's with some guys who formed "Toxic Shock" who did play around for a few years around the area and likely some gigs elsewhere. I know there is some video of that kicking around. They had a pretty strong act and talent. I doubt there are many who would remember much of what me and my little group contributed it was so short lived. On the other hand Alan Black is a totally different story. Anyone who is his Facebook friend is very well aware that he is very much involved and is so much of a music inspiration that has certainly had a wonderful life enjoying the "blessing of music" in so many ways and has inspired others to do so. Congratulations to Alan.....and thanks

Stevie, so good to hear from you. I sent you a friend request on FB the other day. Hard for me to answer that one, but he was involved in a sailboat accident with Tom Manson on Utah Lake in mid '70's on Utah Lake and was pulled out of the boat along with the boat motor and drowned. Very shocking for all of us.
