Can anyone recommend a veterinarian with reasonably priced spay services? I was quoted almost $750 by my vet to spay my healthy 4 year old Belgium Shepherd mix. I tried...

I went to High Street Animal Hospital in Peterborough to get my Siberian Husky neutered and it only costed me $350 but I also got him microchipped and his last set of needles! There pretty cheap there smile emoticon
Andrew B. replied:
East Oshawa Animal Hospital at Hwy 2 and Townline. Very reasonably priced services. The charges by weight are for the anaesthetic as it gets dosed by body weight.
Melodie R. replied:
I have heard great things about Morningstar Pet Hospital in Whitby.
Cheryl M. replied:
yes, i was just calling yesterday and cavan hills doesn't go by weight. last year i was quoted $350 to do a neapolitan mastiff. my friend was quoted $220 for a pug at cavan hils. newmarket is good if you can wait. you have to call and go on a waiti ng list. i called in late nov i think it was and i just got a call to book my appointment last week for three cats but by that time i had gotten into Toronto Spay and Neuter clinic.
Martha C. replied:
Morning star in Whitby is amazing smile emoticon But if money for spaying is a concern, Dr Kodsy would recommend the SPCA spay/neuter clinics in Newmarket. Sometimes they have a blitz for $20!!!! Otherwise I believe it's less than $100 smile emoticon From what I remember you have to book online but google Newmarket SPCA and see what you find !
Kelly H. replied:
Cavan Hills. One price, does not matter the size of the dog. Just had our lab done this last June. They are excellent & we have been going there for years
Karrie S. replied:
Ganaraska Animal Hospital in Port Hope might be worth a call.
Carrie M. replied:
I would try Claremont Vet. They are very good and decently priced. I feel your pain, saint bernard owner smile emoticon

Thank you all for the suggestions. I've been on the waiting list with the OSPCA for over two months and haven't received as much as a phone call, understandable for such an affordable service, but I'd like to have it done sooner than later. I go to Morningstar Pet Hospital in Whitby, they're amazing and affordable in many aspects, which is why I was shocked to be quoted so much!
Heather T. replied:
I have been told that Cavan Hills Vet is very reasonable. http://www.cavanhillsvet.com/
Leanne L. replied:
Do you like Port Perry? If so, our vet office that we use for our dogs and they're the best! 905-985-9748 I always ask for the price over the phone before I come in and they accepted my transferred filed for my kitties.
I am looking for a vet in the Durham region willing to drive a little bit if I needed to. ..... I was taking my dogs to the brimley and Lawrence in Scarborough but I am...
Gayle T. replied:
I take my pups to Thickson Pet Hospital and absolutely love them. Dr. Steele has been the only vet that has been able to muzzle my very skittish pup. Also check out http://www.vetratingz.com to get a really good idea of the vet you are going to. It's a great resource with actually customer ratings and reviews.
Jennifer S. replied:
I highly recommend Ritson Veterinary Clinic in Oshawa. Been taking our dogs to Dr. Peter Hooger (it's his clinic) for over 20 years. Our labs have always loved him and we trust him 100%! During every visit there is always a moment as Peter is examining Hershey (my choc lab) when he pauses, reading Hershey's expression. Hershey takes that as his cue to "wash" Peter's face LOL! Phone: 905-438-0664 300 Taunton Rd. E., Oshawa
Stuart S. replied:
Northumberland Vet Clinic in Orono, just south of the big apple, is worth the drive. Prices are way lower than in the city. It's worth the drive.
Victoria C. replied:
I go to Port Perry Veterinary Services(right beside the Halibut House) The women in their are amazing, The vet is phenomenal. Their prices are super low because they make most of their money on farm animals. It's so worth the drive. The vet has dealt with horses most of her life so she's very good at approaching animals and reading their behavior. She actually remembers you and your pets and makes you feel like a person not some random client. Maybe I'm biased but I seriously love that place. I got 3 kittens neutered, shots and 6 months of flea meds, 350$. In Oshawa it would have cost us between 600-900$ (I've also been to Wilson Rd Vet, which is garbage, Ritson.. ehh I had a bad experience there, and Baker in whitby but I find it too pricey)
Erika R. replied:
I too go to Thickson Road Animal Hospital 905-434-2885. Dr. Steele and Dr, Sherry are amazing-saved my baby's life! With my other baby dying a few moths ago, I got a card and phone calls from them to express their sympathy. As a long-time, frequent client, I can't say enough about the staff and vets there.
Susan V. replied:
Aspen Springs Animal Hospital in Bowmanville, the best!!!!!
We just rescued a dog and are looking for a vet for him. anyone have any recommendations for a vet who is friendly and means more towards natural treatments than always...
Shelley W. replied:
We go to Baker Animal Clinic, and they've been good about supplements, but they do jump to pharma. We just ask lots of questions and they know we like to try natural first, and seem pretty respectful of our choices. When we got our lab she had chroni c ear infections. Our vet sat down and we talked about how to get her healthy. The antibiotics were a short term measure, the rest were natural options. I know there is a vet in Ashburn I've heard is pretty natural in her approach too. Good luck!

I know a homeopathic who helps out the cats with homeopathic remedies at Second Chance Wildlife Sanctuary, they work incredibly. Her name is Cherri Campbellwww.innerhealth.ca905-668-8220 I'm not sure if she treats dogs but it's worth inquiring!
Leah R. replied:
Finding a holistic vet is hard, since they tend to work more as consultants than clinicians.. It's a different story in the US though.. but there are good conventional vets who are o.k. with raw and who won't be judgemental and lay a big guilt trip on you if you say no to vaccines. We have a few vets (LOL!) - I believe one doesn't have to limit oneself lol... Each vet brings their unique skill set - some are great diagnosticians, others are better clinicians, etc... So depending what we need will determine which vet we call.. Basic blood work and wellness I'll go to Peter Hoogers at Ritson; holistic advice I'll call my buddy Cynthia Harcourt; acupuncture I'm going to Cheryl Birss at Baker.. We also have one for chiro, another for osteo issues.. The list goes on lol...
Marty P. replied:
Dr. Carr at Ritson Vet is very good, doesn't push meds. Kim at Global, Harmony & Taunton is very knowledgeable on all natural solutions.
Nadine F. replied:
East Oshawa vet clinic. Mary is amazing. I met her and Dr Hillis at recent seminar.
Hello -- I want to get my two dogs microchipped. My vet quoted me $45 plus taxes and plus freezing the area for each dog. I'm not sure how much freezing the area would...
Rachel S. replied:
I used to help with the microchip clinics.....for The Animal Guardian Society...freezing is totally unnecessary....I would say in a day we would chip 40 dogs/cats and 1 would actually even notice that we did it!!
Cheryl G. replied:
We go to Claremont Vet. We are just getting it done when we do the spay but they will do it at any vet visit so we don't have to pay an additional vet visit fee. Think it's 25 bucks. No need to freeze. The ones they are using now also always them to scan for temperature so no more butt thermometers ;)
Paulah C. replied:
There is a clinic on Jan. 18/16 1000 to 1400 hr at Pet Valu in Whitby $30.00 apparently you need to make an appt. re link and money goes to animal charity:) http://www.animalguardian.org/cheapmicrochipclinic/
Kelly W. replied:
I think Riverside Pet Hospital does it for around $30 or $35
Thomas S. replied:
Pet Valu bowmanville will be doing one soon with proceeds going to a pet rescue. $25 per animal. Call 905-623-6613 ask for Lisa
Kayla W. replied:
It is a large gauge needle and does cause discomfort, but you shouldn't need to anesthetize the area. I had my pup done while she was out for her spay. I'd also suggest one of the many Microchipping events like Pet Valu holds.
Hi everyone ☺️

Dr. Carr and Dr. Plaxton at Rison Vet Clinic are wonderful and caring!
Amber D. replied:
Morningstar Pet Hospital is great, and Dr. Kodsy is phenomenal and quite reasonable. Forewarning to avoid Cavan Hills Veterinary Services in the Peterborough area. I went here in hopes of an affordable spay surgery and instead walked away with $3000 in veterinary bills & nearly lost my dog due to negligence at the hands of the vet who performed the surgery. I highly recommend checking vetratingz.com before you choose where to take your furbaby:)
Sandra C. replied:
I've heard Morningstar Pet Hospital is awesome. Haven't needed a vet in a while, but that is probably where I'd go.

Toronto Humane Society or Ontario SPCA (Newmarket & Barrie are the clinic locations). If you go to http://www.spayneuter.ontariospca.ca/ You can look at the prices there and register for the wait list.
Anyone know of a reasonably priced vet in oshawa area my boys are due for shots and want my one microchipped (other one already is)
Sue M. replied:
Rosswell Vet in Courtice or Grandview Vet in Oshawa. Both very reasonable. I personally switched from Taunton Rd Vet to Rosswell Vet because of escalating costs. Sad to do so as I really liked them and had been there for quite awhile. Checkup at Rosswell is about $45.00

Looking for a vet for dogs in Oshawa who is good at what they do and cares more about the animals then the money.

Amber D. replied:
Do not go to Cavan Hills. One of their vets(Dr. Nancy Shand) who has over 30 years experience, somehow managed to nearly kill my perfectly healthy four year old dog after her spay surgery. Something that is perfectly routine and common, and she lacked the technical skill to properly perform this procedure. I went to Cavan Hills due to their low prices, but nearly lost my sweet girl. Dr. Kodsy from Morningstar Pet Hospital in Whitby, however, saved her life after two hours of emergency surgery, and even when her heart tried to give out, he kept her alive. He was so compassionate that he only charged me a fraction of what the surgery would have cost elsewhere. He even went as far as giving me his personal cellphone number for when she came home, just incase I had a question or concern. He is the only vet I recommend!
Melodie R. replied:
Dr. Kodsy is amazing. If you go to Cavan, STAY AWAY from Dr. Shand for sure. I can vouch for Amber on this as had my own personal experience with her HOWEVER Dr. Good is AWESOME! And the prices were better than fair. If you can specify him or Dr. Maser who also owns the practice, you will be in good hads but DO stay away from Dr Shand - she should be retired!
Erika G. replied:
Dr Brown at the Rossland Animal Hospital! Shes amazing. Shes done house calls for me and reasonable prices and helped Jenny and I get through A really tough time. She never took us in for the money!
Maureen M. replied:
Dr Dan at the Durham vet in Bowmanville is very reasonable priced and loves his job

Is there a vet that does payment plans? Would like to get my 2 year old jack russell all his needles done now that we are out of our financial situation and doing much...
Natalia R. replied:
Oh please don't go to the Brimely and Lawrence Vet's unless you request only Dr. Kahan (spelling?). I'm very familiar with them. ...over 25 years familiar with them. I will never take another pet there ever again! Even the emergency vet in Scarboro has heard nothing but bad things about them. My dog now has a permanent limp because of them! I have 2 long stories about them...too long to get into it here but for short, my cat was wrongly diagnosed with a dislocated shoulder...turned out to be bone cancer and my dog had an accident with his tendon, took him in, they did an operation that I did not know about and was done by a vet there that had no business and no experience and he was not properly casted. He now limps! I now take my dog to Morningside Pet Hospital. Great place and tons of services.
Jillian W. replied:
Took my dogs and cats to Brimley for last 8-9 years, but I stopped going 1 1/2 years ago because the level of vet care has declined substantially! The last vet there refused to even touch my 8.5 lb dog for fear she might bite him!! I started going to Amberlea Vet clinic in Pickering.
Kira K. replied:
Ritson Veterinary Clinic tends to have lower prices. Not sure about payment plans.
Melissa N. replied:
Anderson vet clinic is BY FAR the cheapest priced vets in durham area and they are Great with animals also.. otherwise your other option would be call the SPCA (but they have up to 6 months plus wait list) and brimley and lawerance in scrab is Cheap also. The Durham humane society has started this low cost Voucher for low income people (u bring in proof of income) and they give u a voucher towards shots and spay/neuters (but u have so long to get it done) u just bring the voucher to a vet thats Working with this program and its like $80 to neuter (i heard but u would have to call to confirm) its worth calling.
