You're going to see an issue no matter where you go.
At the beginning of covid-19, all of the car rental places, sold off all of their leased vehicles so they wouldn't depreciate over time.
Their plan was to get new ones.
This is where the big problem came in the global just-in-time supply chain caused the many businesses to stutter step and one of them is computer chips which are needed in modern vehicle Manufacturing.
Most manufacturers are struggling right now to put up new vehicles because of this.
In Alaska the price was $400-600 a day. It destroyed thier tourism (fly in).
From what I heard this problem will not immediately alleviate itself. so the price of used vehicles is up and should remain up for about the next 3 years.

You could use one of the tour buses that go to Jasper from Edmonton. They are usually about $100 a person one way. And than stay a few days at a hotel in Jasper. For example: www.sundogtours.com/package/edmonton-edson-hinton-jasper-shuttle-service/

Are you a member of AMA? You are able to get discounts for Enterprise for car rentals. There is Communauto (https://alberta.communauto.com) but I don’t know what their rules are on leaving the city.

Who is your employer? Through mine I get some great exclusive rates, maybe worth checking out

Enterprise has unlimited mileage. Always has
heavyasabrick replied:
If you’re staying central, look at Communauto car share. It’s decently priced with a certain number of km included each day, gas included too. I’ve been using it for years and that includes regular trips to the mountains. Slightly cheaper than a rental on average and more convenient.

I usually rent from a downtown Budget location (106 th Street or City Centre). Budget is always unlimited milage. The prices for Budget are higher this year BUT they do seem to fluctuate quite a bit. Earlier in June I snagged a three day rental (from 106 street location) for $100 on the same day I started the rental. I have AMEX so I do get a bit of a discount. All of this is to say that if you're flexible you might be able to snag a last minute rental from Budget for a good deal.

What kind of car is it? My BF works for Adroc Automotive at Slack and Woodroffe. They deal with mostly luxury/import cars but they've got a pretty loyal customer base and I know they do handle insurance jobs.

Cheap Car rental? Does anyone know the cheapest car rental place in Ontario? If not do u know where we can get insurance to make it cheaper? Dont have a Canadian...
deltatux replied:
Check if your credit card comes with any car rental discounts or if you're part of any professional organizations, you may get some discounts through special discount codes. If none of that applies to you, I usually check car rental rates off Expedia or any travel websites. I used to find that Discount Car Rental was the cheapest almost all the time and they were pretty good too but recently I find that the other car rental places have been as competitive. Make sure to shop around, there's no specific place that is cheaper than others. It really depends where in Ontario you're renting from and the time of year you're renting.

I've found Priceline the best service for rental cars. Especially in Europe but it seems to apply in Canada too.

Thrifty, Hertz, Alamo. They're all fairly similar and reasonably priced.

Check out comparison site www.autoslash.com Also, Costco generally has very good rates for members (membership is about $65/yr and you can sign up online if you don’t already have it). www.costcotravel.ca for rates.
