Where do you rent camera gear from? Henry's Camera Store no longer offers rentals. Anyone know another place that does?

I've used Affinity before when renting camera equipment for video shoots.

Ruckify is a new business in Ottawa/Canada that is geared to renting all sorts of things. You could always check them out and see if there’s anything in their inventory or they could put a call out for you. http://www.ruckify.com

Wow, first they closed a bunch of stores, now they're not renting. Tick tock?

I'm looking for any junk/electronic parts surplus stores in Ottawa. Suggestions? Some may know Active Surplus in Toronto. The kind of place where you can find random...

This is a tricky request for Ottawa! Computer Recyclers used to have a retail store with lots of odd bits and pieces, they would have been the closest thing to active that we had. They have gone to recycling only now, I'm not sure if they will let you pick random bits from their piles of stuff though. As for components and new bits and pieces Active Components (on Merivale between Clyde and Baseline) has lots of stuff. Gervais electronics has a great selection http://www.gervaiselectronics.ca/ and then you have Reset Electronics over behind Ikea http://www.resetelectronics.com/VALUE/index.asp Aside from that Princess Auto has lots of random surplus bits and pieces too. Good for cheap cables and ac adaptors and stuff. Otherwise a trip to addison might be in order http://addison-electronique.com/?___store=english&___from_store=french

Keep in mind that [Digi-Key](http://www.digikey.ca/) ships overnight, with an $8 shipping charge for orders of 0-$200 (and free shipping above that). You really can't beat that. Plus their inventory is just unbelievably enormous...

Since no one's yet said it.. check out FoxyRecycle at 2940 Baseline. They do electronics recycling and (at least I was) able to freely wander about looking at what they had.. http://www.foxyrecycle.com/ They generally sell the better stuff online both on Ebay, kijiji and Used Ottawa under the name Right Electronics (rightelectronics613 on ebay).. Paul Volkmer is the guy in charge of sales Hope that helps some.. Edit: Wrong Ebay store name..

I forgot about the mothership.... Crown Assets http://crownassets.pwgsc.gc.ca/ While not a store, they do sell quite a bit of random stuff. Lots of projectors and tv's show up, old printers, old servers, tools, etc. Ottawa has lots of that kind of stuff, Toronto (downsview) gets lots of the seized goods. Plus its an interesting site to go and look at all the crazy stuff like the former crash test cars they are selling for parts and the european model diesels they are selling for export only :-(
Looking for Camera Stores other than Henry's. Does anyone know of a good camera store in the Ottawa area other than Henry's. With first of all good customer service.

Check [Vistek](https://www.vistek.ca) on Bank near Argyle Ave. I can certainly understand your "*With first of all good customer service.*" comment with regards to Henry's. I quit going to the Henry's Bank Street outlet because if the sales people don't sense a sale in the first 60 seconds customer service drops to below 0. Have always had good experiences at Vistek, even if just asking questions about a possible buy sometime in the future.

I've had great experiences at the Camera Trading Company - it's located at 368 Bank St just a few blocks south of Somerset. I'm not sure how up-to-date their stuff is since I went in to see what they had for my Minolta that's from the 70 s. I've also popped in to the [Canadian Camera](http://www.canadiancamera.com/) on Albert and Bank for a passport photo. It went well. Seems like a good place to check out.

I buy strictly from Vistek, the one on Bank to be specific. Tried the Henry's on Bank a long long time ago, I was picking up an umbrella. The guy looked at me as if I was an idiot and proceeded to tell me how many weddings he had photographed, like I cared. I just wanted my damn umbrella.

There's one at Bank and Catherine opposite the gas station, the name escapes me. They're supposed to be pretty good.

Vistek. The staff member was very kind when I needed some sensor cleaning supplies, and he even went back to my car to put in the free parking pass because I was wearing an aircast at the time and it was tough for me to walk. I got some good advice at Henry's at Hunt Club and Merivale years ago - even though I was upfront with the guy and told him I wasn't ready to buy anything just yet, and was still researching a future purchase. But that was then...

Henrys Bank Street have been good so far but the sales people are horrible except for Doris (a woman) who is wonderful. There is one guy who will stare at you creepily every time i step into Henrys Banks and this is the reason why I don't shop there anymore. However, they have almost every camera you need and their return policy is good. Vistek has very knowledgeable people and they have an awesome lens rental policy. However, if you are going to buy something and return it, expect some resistance. One time, I returned a unit and they made me wait 30 mins while they took my item to the back to "check" with the manager. This made me very uncomfortable Next are big box stores like Best Buy and Futureshop. They are pretty good because you can play with the cameras all day long whereas Henry's and Vistek they will let you try them, but get angry if you don't buy. (wasting their time?) I absolute hate the fact that when you ask to see a camera at vistek or Henrys, they give it to you and stare at you until you are finished. anywyas there are some smaller ones like Canada Computers on Rideau street and Galaxy Camera company on Bank. Blacks in Rideau is good too. And finally, Amazon.ca is the best. You can try the cameras at Future Shop to see if you like them and then buy them on Amazon for cheaper. Ah the beauty of ecommerce.

BIG difference between Henry's on Bank and every other Henry's in town. The people at Henry's Orleans (10 th Line and Innes) and Henry's Nepean (near Merivale and Hunt Club) are fantastic. They roll their eyes at the nightmare stories customers tell them about the Bank location. I've heard them characterize the Bank Street staff as "sharks." Seriously, try the Orleans or Nepean locations. They're really chill and friendly, nevermind very qualified. I do also recommend Vistek.
Fellow photographers: can anyone recommend a good camera store in the Ottawa area? Further, could anyone tell me what the chances are of 30 year old lenses from a...

Henri's is one of the better places. Other than that, and online: 1- Camera Canada 2- BH photo 3- Adorama As for the adaptor, you're looking for something like this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/995265-REG/fotodiox_md_eos_g_dc_minolta_md_mc_sr.html
