I've used Ottawa Structural before, but it was an interior approach...all I can say it they were really good at the concrete parts..unfortunately their finishing left a little to be desired in my opinion. I thought I was getting back finished stairs (that had a railing, and looked good), instead I got what I referred to as "contractor stairs" (ie: stairs that were built to because you needed stairs, they looked like crap and didn't give me a railing)...but I digress. My parents also used them for some foundation work on the outside of their house. They were pleased. I'd hire them again only if it were an outdoor only job.

My friend and I have had a good experience with this guy, although with smaller jobs. Seems like a standup guy. http://donovanmasonry.com/ Hope things work out, not fun times I'm sure.

Rather than point you to more online resources, here are some concepts you might want to keep in mind and as focus on different specific areas of theory.
A melody is made up of notes spread out over time and Harmony is made from notes stacked on top of each other. They come from the same place - a scale or mode or some kind of harmonic center.
Multiple notes (be it melody or harmony) will either create a type of tension or feel at rest (or be part of a transition between the two). The tension created gets resolved through movement that gives the listener of being taken somewhere which delights the brain. Keep an eye on how this kind of tension gets resolved. It happens at a different scale (no pun intended) throughout a piece of music (within phrase, within a harmonic progression, within the entirely of a piece of music).
When you're studying theory, it's easy miss the forest in the trees. The greater your understanding of theory the greater your appreciation for music will become. Don't get so lost in details that you miss the big picture.
Good luck with your journey.

Finding a music theory workbook that you can do in your own will help you a ton. Actually writing down concepts and answering questions critically will help. The "music theory workbook for all musicians" by Chris Bowman is a good one, and I think it's retail for about ten bucks which is a great deal.

[This video on basic chords by Michael New](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Y01 jIorpeA) is a great starting point. His teaching method and explanations are actually great, I suggest you give the rest of his music theory videos a shot.

We had Capital reinforce our basement walls...work was done quickly and cleanly...other than that it's been 6 years and our house hasn't fallen down so i guess that's a recommendation.

I used Capital last summer and highly recommend them! They were super courteous and professional from the initial contact (sent someone out right away to look), sent me a detailed estimate the same or next day, always prompt with communication. The guy who actually did the digging showed up on time, brought me out to take a look during the repair work and thoroughly explained the problem and how he was fixing it, and finished the job when he said he would.
