Hi,
I have a patient who is moving to a town where the only chiropractor there uses the McTimmoney technique. My patient is used to being adjusted manually. What can I...
Matthew L. replied:
Johan Erik Napoleon Nilsson No Chiropractic Adjustment does harm when delivered for the right purpose; not just MCT and Activator, for the record.
Peter L. replied:
Jake show her this video and let her know what the body can do under the right conditions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9 g35De0 tFg&feature=youtu.be
Christo W. replied:
Hey Jake, if the chiropractor practices pure McTimoney technique only (many adapt it or add to their toolkit along with other techniques) then you're patient can expect a series of low force adjustments, usually with a full body assessment. Types of a djustments consist largely of toggle-torque recoil (think hands-on version of integrator adjusting instrument) for spine and atlas, and gentle HVLA thrusts and impulses for pelvis and elsewhere. There are some mobilisations in the protocol. There isn't usually audible cavitation. Here's some research about the speeds and forces of TTR if you're interested: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19539120 I agree with the other guys - in the right hands its a great technique, but its all about the chiropractor and their intention. Generally though McT is a pretty vitalistic approach. Hope that's useful smile emoticon

You bring up an intersting issue here Marc, Do we send them to the nearest chiropractor. Even if he/she is a mixer or do we leave the patients totally unattended. I do not know these chiropractors personally, I did have some email exchanges with Dr Jarvis a couple of years ago. Both are graduates from accredited colleges and yes, they use modalities. If the patients you are referring are well educated, I would let the patients decide. I do not have any better option in Ecuador. My job is to serve my patients, educate them and offer them options.

Richard Doble Jr. I apologize for the tone in my response above. I had spent a couple of days answering rhetorical questions from pessimists and smart-asses, and misunderstood your genuine request for information. Sorry.
