Can someone recommend a dermatologist in the valley? It's for my 1 year old. He has horrible eczema. The pediatrician isn't helping enough. TIA

Allison, I am in the middle of an elimination diet for digestive issues. As I read & learn more about nutrition & it's role in our overall well being, I'm astounded by the number of people who are impacted by food sensitivities. MANY report relief from eczema & a whole host of other issues by identifying & eliminating trigger foods from their diet. If you decide to explore the food allergy route, try Dr Velarius at NowHealth in Palmer. She is a Functional Medecine doc who will look at overall health & wellness to help treat his eczema. She is caring, thorough, and great with kids (my 5 year old saw her for her kindergarten physical. She calls her "Dr Hilarious. Lol!) (Laura)

Mat Su Integrative Medicine is who I took my son to for his eczema. They ordered the allergy tests (just a blood draw) and his eczema is triggered by dairy.

On the allergy note, I would walk into Ptarmigan Pediatrics and ask for a referral for an allergy test. The allergy clinic goes there once a week. He gets everything you eat when BFing and you mentioned some cleared up after taking the baby food away. Eczema comes from a food allergy 90% of the time. Good luck mama

They told you to use petroleum jelly??!!! That's toxic stuff. Have you tried an all natural Shea butter or Argan oil? Not the stuff sold in stores with tons of chemical ingredients but just 100% Shea butter or 100% pure Argan oil. I agree with the allergy testing, but In the meantime you can always try something chemical free for topical use. Goat milk soap has the closest ph to what our skin needs and has nourishing vitamins if you are looking for a soap. A great local company that makes these products is Taproot Farms Co in chickaloon. Some people are allergic to Shea so do a test area first if you end up getting some Shea butter. Email me if you have any questions about natural chemical free skin products. iv been using them for years and can't imagine going back to store bought stuff.

My son has keratosis pilaris, and our pediatrician prescribed an exfoliate lotion. I am going to try this link first though (more natural), and see how it goes. Google keratosis pilaris and see if it is what your kiddo has. This is mostly on his torso and arms, like dry skin but super itchy. http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com/2014/09/treat-red-bumpy-skin-keratosis-pilaris.html

There is only one in the Valley. Dr. Weiss. I like him, many comments on previous posts. Might try an allergy specialist, I know of young kids having allergies to starches, I use to be one, worth looking into. Good luck, you might have to look in Anchorage.
Stephanie L. replied:
I would recommend seeing Aubrey Spangler at Mat-Su Midwifery she can help you eliminate food and other allergen's, then next step I would go to Anchorage Center for Dermatology if needed. They are the best in the state. I was very uncomfortable with the Valley dermatologist. It was not a very child friendly office either.
We use Dr.Peterson at Ptarmigan pediatrics. We've used her dating back to when she was an active duty Air Force pediatrician in another state ten years ago and was overjoyed to find her practicing here in Wasilla.

Dr, Elowyn Smith at Ptarmigan. She is hands down the best. So thorough and kind, my children will never see anyone else!

Dr. Karen Impson at Adventures in Pediatrics

Dr. Elizabeth Turgeon at Lighthouse Family Medicine, it's behind Lake Lucille Urgent Care. 376-5337, she is the best!
