I need to find a GOOD female doctor and pediatrician for after I have my son in 3 1/2wks. Also a doctor to do his one week check up. I refuse to go back to my doctor for...
Jolene C. replied:
Dr Lisa Harrison at Wild Iris in Wasilla does family medicine including pediatrics and maternity care.
Kayla F. replied:
I love Dr. Krozel at PMHC she is amazing! Delivered my little girl and has seen us both for follow ups since. Great for the whole family!
Kristina C. replied:
Wasn't sure if you meant a doctor who is a female, or an ob/gyn. If the latter, Dr. John Oliver is great. For a pediatrician, we use Dr. Tamara Krimm at Mat-Su Pediatrics. Highly recommend both!
Tessa R. replied:
For pediatrician- highly recommend Dr. Krimm- she's amazing. For OBGYN, definitely dr elrod
Sarah G. replied:
I hated Elrod. Was a nightmare for surgery, not for pregnancy. He doesn't listen at all to patients. The hospital wrote off my bill because of the screw ups and also they were in fear of a lawsuit and by their own records they were at fault. He did not listen to me from day one about medications I could not have and ordered them anyways. He didn't not show up for over 24 hours after surgery for a check up. I wouldn't recommend him to my worst enemy. As for pediatrics, Dr Impson is outstanding. My kids love her and her staff, even despite the fact she and the nurses give them shots.
Kloiah K. replied:
I highly recommend either of the Elrods. I have never had to wait long for an appointment. If I have a issue they usually can see me same day. He is understanding and patient. I also recommend Doctor Hess at Ptarmigan.
Cory S. replied:
I would say to avoid Linda Wrigley in Anchorage. I had her with my first pregnancy and she was terrible! Also, I have friends who have had bad experiences with her (including a botched c section), and when I talked to an L&D nurse recently about her, I heard more horror stories.
Anna W. replied:
I ended going into Alaska women's health in anchorage for myself. Not a lot of good options in the valley, though I have heard very good things about Erickson (he wasn't taking new patients at the time I tried to get in) and good about Fitzgerald, but that he is quirky. We use Dr. Therese Tomasoski as our pediatrician at providence matsu clinic and we love her. I very highly recommend! We only went to ptarmigan for visits with a specialist who comes out from anchorage, so no info on the Drs there, but the crowded, stuffy waiting room full of very sick or crying kids every time we've gone is a huge deal breaker for me.
Sacha R. replied:
Fitzgerald is my OB now. I would say I left generations except they fired me as a patient for "non compliance of medical plan" with 8 weeks left in my pregnancy. who's medical plan? Not mine! They were trying to bully me again. I questioned them and told them no and they sent me a letter telling me to go to someone else. Elrod was their suggestion so I chose Not to go there. Generations was nothing but nightmares for me and my family. I was told to try Fitzgerald and I found him quirky and awkward socially but a hell of a doctor! Wish I had known about him years ago! We see Dr. Attwood too as a pediatrician. He has been seeing my older boys a few years and He saved my little guy after he aspirated during delivery. He is a big goofball but an excellent pediatrician. My boys love him!
Allison T. replied:
Dr. Peterson at Ptarmigan for pediatrician. She is very sweet
Kelly D. replied:
Valarie Krozel at Pmhc is wonderful! She was with me from the start and then she was my doctor and my childrens doctor after they were born.Dr.Krozel is a mother of 4 young children. She is very easy to talk to and she never rushes you! I have also heard amazing things about Dr.Elrod and his staff!
Briana P. replied:
Dr. Elrod! Best OB/Gyn in the valley! Matsu midwifery also are awesome for family health. From you to your children. Mine see Aubrey Spangler. She's amazing
Valarie K. replied:
I highly recommend Dr. Fitzgerald! I switched to him from Elrod during my pregnancy because I was not happy with Elrod. I have continued seeing Fitzgerald ever since. He is quirky but he knows his stuff! As for pediatrician we used ptarmigan as well. Hess is out doctor there and I will probably never trust another doctor with my son. Hess saved my nephews life and has always listened to my concerns about my son without questioning me or making me feel like a crazy first time mom.
Kelly M. replied:
Robbyn, Alaska Women's Health has a great group of doctors. I was more or less "adopted" by them when things went south with my pregnancy. I've seen Wiggins, Gohring, Hinkel, and Dr Bell did my csection. All were caring and insanely helpful. That being said, my son was born at 28 weeks, so choosing a good pediatrician was very important to us. Dr. Hess has been AMAZING. We have, on occasion, seen other providers at Ptarmigan and have had not complaints.
Robbyn M. replied:
I'll have to look into Dr. Hess. I want a doctor who I can talk to and who actually listens to my concerns when I have them and not just blow me off or down play what I'm saying. Seriously appreciate the advice.
Erin C. replied:
Dr. Erickson@Capstone is a great family Dr. for kids or adults, and they do also have a female family doc on staff who deals with prenatal/deliveries/postpartum care as well as regular care (Henneman) if you prefer a woman - their office has always been very nice for me & the kiddos, friendly & easy to get into (But avoid Dr. Jachimec there, NOT good for kids!) If you want to find a lady doc in Anchorage where you'll be delivering I highly recommend Dr. Linda Wrigley, she has an OB-GYN practice there at Providence and is very good, I have a good friend who's delivered twice with her & used her for female care myself for years, much better than the docs out here!
Breeanna G. replied:
Dr Howell-Canada!
Adi S. replied:
Dr. Atwood has been great with my almost 2 year old son. Recently switched.
Adi S. replied:
Dr. Elrod for OB/gyn. He's fantastic.
Robbyn M. replied:
The girls at work and some of our regular customers have suggested Dr. Elrod. I just wish I hadn't waited this long to find a new doctor. I'm a first time mom so this is all new to me. I really do appreciate everyone's thoughts and opinions.
Teresa M. replied:
Dr. Hess is awesome hes Ptarmigan Pediatrics, LLC staff there are very friendly and helpful, my grandson was born just a lil b4 midnight and he was there to check him out and has been his physician for the past 3 yrs
Crysta L. replied:
For Pediatrician I recommend Ptarmigan Pediatrics. ALL the Docs there are awesome and can get you in quick if There's anything urgent. We see Hess. For OB/Gyn I recommend Dr Fitzgerald with Aurora Women's Health 907-746-7747. Most women find him a bit of an odd personality BUT he is an AMAZING Doctor!
Crysta L. replied:
For a female Doctor specifically I've heard good things about Ellen Palmer
Heather M. replied:
I agree with everything Crysta said in her first reply. We see Dr Peterson@Ptarmigan though.
Dannelle K. replied:
We love Dr. Erickson at capstone for our pediatrician. He's a family practice doctor.
Todd R. replied:
Our family (husband, myself, and all 3 kids included) all really like Dr Jill Valerius at Now Health in Palmer or Dr Wade Erickson at Capstone Family Medecine. They have cared for all 3 of our kids from labor & delivery to school physicals. Dr Erickson does prenatal/labor & delivery, too. He has a wonderful, confidence-inspiring bedside manner. If you specifically want/need a woman, give Dr Velarius a call. She's into functional Medecine & optamizing wellness, not just treating illness. (Laura)
Lindsay H. replied:
Aubrey Spangler at Mat-Su Midwifery - she can do your care and your baby's. Both my son and I continue to see her and he's almost 2.
Dannelle K. replied:
I used Dr. Elrod for my pregnancy and he is amazing. Love him and his staff!!
Kristine T. replied:
On his off day, Hess came for my c-section. Thankfully, because my son had a hole in his lung and we needed to go to the nicu. Fitgerald is the only reason my son is alive, though, since i had a short vellementous cord that was wrapped around his neck and Dr. Fitzgerald caught it. He was quick to send me to specialists, did weekly ultrasounds even though insurance only paid for one to monitor and be prepared, and he did weekly stress tests at the end where he could tell my son's heart rate was going down every time he moved. He is also an EXTREMELY knowledgable doctor that keeps current on on the latest information and is a highly skilled surgeon (like a plastic surgeon). I would switch to him now if I were you.
Amanda E. replied:
Dr. Elrod. And I like doctor Hess. But his nurses gave my baby shots and never wrote them down. They wanted to redo her shots and I'm pissed about it. So I now take her to Karen Impson and I love her. She is off Seward meridian.
My babies aren't getting better :-( omw to see a better Dr. Any recommendations for a new pediatrician? Not Ptarmigan. Any body go to capstone family medicine on Seward...
Amber B. replied:
I've heard good things about Capstone. Im going to try them for myself. For my kids I use Dr Krimm at Mat-Su Community Pediatric. I love her!
Pediatrician/family doctor suggestions for Wasilla? (That aren't Capstone.)
Lyndi B. replied:
I LOVE Ptarmagin Pediatrics!! Dr Hess is AMAZING!! As well as most other people there! They have a new Dr- John Anderson-he's cynical but funny! Female Dr too but haven't met her yet?
When helping moms and dads prepare for the arrival of their little one, I'm often often asked for my recommendation for a pediatrician to care for baby.
