anyone know the cost of dog boarding at fork union animal clinic?? or any recommendations?
Angie O. replied:
Crossroads Animal Hospital charges $25 a night. Canine Concierge (Mary Marks) charges $40 a night. We've used both and have loved both.
Joe A. replied:
We loved Whetstone Farm but it's all the way down in Dillwyn, a bit of a drive from here, but excellent care on a big old farm. $25 per night. Great for country dogs!
Jennifer S. replied:
I can't remember how much fork union charges. They are great folks but we've not used them for boarding yet. https://www.facebook.com/478474835600382 Sadie's Stay n' Play is a great option that we've used for our dog. They are fabulous and the dogs get lots of playtime which helps my high energy girl

Whitney W. replied:
At Fork Union Animal Clinic they give every animal Capstar to kill fleas when they come in and when they leave.. They always take very good care of the boarding animals and someone is always assigned to the care of the boarders. The animals are fed as directed by the owners. Some animals get very stressed out when boarding and refuse to eat so they are given a easy to digest wet food to entice them to eat and that usually works. They are never neglected or not well taken care of.
Does anyone know of a dog boarding facility that is under $27 a night?

We look our yorkie, Leia to Pampered Pets and left her for 12 days while we went to CA. I regret leaving her there. I personally bagged her food in individual bags for every meal. My husband cooked her salmon, elk steak, chicken and elk ground meat that we portioned out in individual bags and frozen. They were to take her food out of the freezer the night before and the dry food was to be mixed with her cooked food at every meal and given to her to eat. They said no problem. I wrote complete instructions for them. I sent daily treats for her, individually bagged also. When we picked her up, over half of her food was still in the bag and all her treats were not given to her. After getting her home, she was very skittish and she got very sick, after taking her to the vet, she was diagnosed with pancreatitis. We thought we were going to lose her. The vet said pancreatitis can be cause from stress and fatty foods. My husband said when we go somewhere now, if Leia isn't welcome then we just won't go.

We've used Debra Davis' Whetstone Farm is Dillwyn ever since we lived in Buckingham County - Unfortunately it is about an hour from here, but our old, special needs hound loves it there - big sprawling farm! Debra is wonderful with the animals... $25/day http://www.whetstonefarmpetcare.com/

I'll echo the bad experience with Pampered Pets. My dog came home sick after just two nights there. They didn't return my calls when I tried to contact them to learn if an illness had been spreading in their kennels. I have had a nice experience with Crossroads Animal Hospital and they aren't overly expensive.
Kate F. replied:
Jessica Stephanie - we have had similar experiences with Pampered Pets boarding. I have tried to get our boxer into Sadie's sit and stay but was unsuccessful but hope to get her there next time we need to board her.

Can anyone recommend an excellent dog boarding place, with indoor/outdoor runs (no box kennels), and ideally veterinary care?

My dog loved Whetstone Farm in Dillwyn - laid back, country/farm, very caring owner. A bit of a drive, though. About 10 minutes from a vet (Cumberland Animal Hospital - our vet for many years before moving here) http://www.whetstonefarmpetcare.com/index.html
