Having been a professional wedding photographer for over 35 years, (Now retired) I am dismayed when I hear that someone is looking for a photographer and "Even a student would work." I know that weddings can cost a lot of money with the flowers, catering, music etc. But the only thing you will have left after it is all done will be those images. If they are out of focus, poorly lit, with bad posing and terrible composition, will you be inclined to show them to family and friends? Or will you simply hide them in a drawer or on a computer never to see the light of day? All I am saying is that a special event like a wedding should be captured by a good photographer, perhaps even a professional if the budget can handle it... I'll get off my soap box now! Goggle "Wedding Photographers in Charlottesville" for a list of professionals. If you really want to make sure their cost is worth the expense ask if they are members of the PPA (Professional Photographers of America) or the WPI (Wedding Photographers International).

And yet, even a "student" must learn at some point to take pictures of a wedding. And I'm so tired of people bashing other's opinions. It's HER day, let HER decide who she wants to take part in it. She can look at what pictures a "student" has taken and decide before hand if they want to use them or not. So back off people. Dana Powers, you can contact Micheala Shaw by PM. She has been taking family pictures and prom pictures for people to build her portfolio and gain experience. She may even be willing to do a trial shoot for you so that you both can get a feel for each other.
