I know it is probably too late, but it sounds like you are having an infection/abscess. A dentist won't be able to help you anyway right away, because pain killers and anesthesia don't work in this case.
If you have it at home or any way to get your hands on it, try high dosages of penicillin, but better ask a doctor before. The penicillin treats the infection, which is causing the pain most likely. Then you have to take it for 2-3 days and get another appointment and when the infection is gone, the pain is gone and they can treat the bad tooth.
However, that is something you shouldn't do without a doctor prescribing it. Been there before though and I know how bad it can get.
Only thing that worked for me in regards to killing the pain was a joint. Just buy some weed in case it is available to you. Should help you take the pain away for long enough to clear your head and give you time to think clearly. Good luck.
still new-ish to DTLA and don't have a doctor yet. can anyone recommend a good general physician in the DT area?

Dr. Harry Hirsch is an endocrynologist on Meuhedet -- not sure if he sees adults as well as children, however. You can email him to ask, and if not, I'm sure he could suggest someone else.
