I used Stanley Steamer back before the holidays, and I was amazed!!

Disagree about the heat part. I used to steam clean but changed to a method that enables me to choose different cleaning solutions. Pet stains require a totally different pH solution than oily stains or simple dust. Heat is not required, cleaning solutions are now formulated to work just as well using cold water as mandated by Energy Conservation Initiatives. My cleaning solutions have 0 hazards and very effective. I do mix them with warm water. My method helps me see the dirt as it is extracted and it is easy for me to know when areas need extra attention. 1 Hour Dry Time. I don't use Scotchguard because the hazards with that particular product. Use a better stain guard that blocks acid dyes not contained in Scotchguard. Proper application is also important. Not trying to argue the points but there are alternative methods to steam cleaning that are very effective at solving the concerns of those not satisfied with wet carpet and stains that come back.
