Can anyone recommend a good Endodontist for a root canal? I need to get a root canal on one of my back molars. Never had one before and I've heard nothing but bad things...

The Pitt School of Dental Medicine has an Endodontics department [http://dental.pitt.edu/people/endodontics](http://dental.pitt.edu/people/endodontics). I'm going there for a retreatment of a root canal on Friday. My old endodontist on Craig Street was a jerk so I'm switching back to Pitt. I have to say, I've had root canals that have hurt for 2 weeks after and some only for a few days. From what I've learned on r/dentistry about them, it all depends on what happens to the ligament surrounding the tooth during the procedure (how inflammed it gets, etc). Good luck!

I haven't had a root canal with him, but I've had crowns and fillings done by [Dr. Bruce Parker](http://bruceparkerdmd.com/) in Squirrel Hill, and he and his staff are great. Very state-of-the-art, and very good with nervous patients (me) - my wife and I went to several different dentists between the two of us when we moved here, and we both agree that Dr. Parker is the one we're happy with. And on a side note, I've had several root canals done in the past and wanted to offer a little reassurance - in my experience, at least, they really aren't as bad as the horror stories would have you believe. I'm a total dental-phobe and a wimp to boot, but once they numb you up you really shouldn't feel anything - it does take a long time, but the process itself is unremarkable, and if you're currently in pain you should feel SO much better afterwards. If you're nervous and can swing it (I think it's usually an extra $50 or so), getting the nitrous oxide can work wonders - takes the edge off like nobody's business. Good luck!

Lisa Matisko DMD at Edgewood Dental in that office building at Edgewood Town Center did a root canal on me; she's very professional and highly skilled, and somehow managed to do the procedure using a microscope to help her navigate and see what she was doing. No pain, either. http://www.edgewooddentalassociates.com/staff.html

Precision Endodonics on Mt Lebanon Blvd, ask for Dr. Fernando Ascencio. Was ready for a lot of pain- nothing. Could have even gone back to work afterwards.
Hey #Pittsburgh friends. An endodontist you'd recommend? Cause having a root canal in a tooth wasn't good enough, it turns out the SAME tooth needs a revision 10 years...
