Financial Advisor recommendations in pgh? Preferably a fee based advisor, not driven by compensation via product sales.
For a couple entering retirement.

Allegheny Financial Group in the North Hills is worth a call.

Beaconsfield Financial Services. Small family owned business that doesn't sell pre-packaged crap with kickbacks. They're based out of Canonsburg, but I think have satellite offices in Pittsburgh and Butler. I've invested with them the past few years and it's a major difference in treatment compared to the account I had with Edward Jones.

I can highly recommend Doug at Hunter Associates. It’s a small firm that’s fee-based and also has lower fees than other firms. They also don’t push annuities like insurance financial advisors do. Definitely someone who is concerned with his clients’ best interests!

I know you said you're looking for fee based, but I have been really happy with guy. My wife and I spent probably 12 hours at the very least talking to him about our situation before he even made any suggestions. He's told us about things that we never even heard of. Make sure to ask and have them verify that they are a fiduciary.

We use Aldo at Northwestern Mutual. He is great! He has been setting us up for retirement and such for the last year since our other rep left the company. We like him so much more! NEVER pressures us and works within our budget. If you would like to chat with him, just shoot me a PM and I can either have him give you a buzz or let you know more info!

Open Roth IRAs. Try to max them annually and allocate the money in index funds. I recommend Vanguard. If you can max your IRAs open another investment account there. You guessed it, index funds again. Buy a modest home if you can afford it. Buy property and rent if you can afford it. That is all after aggressively paying off any mounting debt you have. That’s what you will hear when you speak with a financial advisor, except they will tell you to buy their products, which cost way more than Vanguard. Save your money and read about investing online. Use the key words in my comment as a start.

Posting on /r/personalfinance might be a good place to start if you have pretty basic questions, like how much to save for retirement or how to invest for retirement. There are high quality wiki guides on a variety of financial topics if you want to read through the basic advice before asking a question. If you want to meet with a financial professional, I suggest you seek out a fee-only financial advisor/ planner, as opposed to someone who will give you “free” advice and earns their money through commissions. You’ll also want to ask the advisor if they’re a fiduciary, which essentially means they are required to act in your best interests.

Save your money. Most financial advisors are just salesman that will try to convince you to buy their companies products. You can research any questions online fairly easily usually.

I really enjoyed working with Ntellivest (Brent Sutherland). He genuinely cares about improving your financial health and future. One-time fee, very easy to understand, no BS.

Don’t buy garbage like whole life insurance - it’s a rip off. Most “investment advisors” sell life insurance and most of it you don’t need.

I have heard good things about hellogrove.com. They are certified financial planners but the business is mostly virtual so you can save a lot in fees.

Until you have say $250,000 built up a financial advisor is pretty pointless. Once you’re wealth starts growing then a good one can work wonders on your account(s). By a good one, someone that is smart in not only investments but taxes, estate planning, etc. Unfortunately it’s a pretty unregulated field & knowledge/education requirements can be lacking so choose wisely.

Check out Dave Ramsey. Or a relationship counselor. A financial advisor would more than happy to help you but would charge an outrageous fee and is not needed. Where are you not seeing eye to eye?
