Disboards.com is a great resource, you can post questions on any number of active forums .... I worked for Disney in College and have visited WDW over 20 times since and I still use Disboards, Mousesavers.com , and AllEars.net for info
Janice S. replied:
I've seriously been there more than 20 times. Used to stay at Port Orleans Riverside until I bought into a timeshare situation (not Disney). A few times we ventured outside of the park for a day at Universal and took a cab. Another good resource is Liza Castellano at AAA at exit 5. She planned a lot of my trips. I fly Southwest out of Providence and do the luggage plan. Being a family of three, I never used the meal plan though. We spent less money on food without it. But if there are 4 or more of you it might be worth it,

If you want to be close to Portland but save money, look at hotels in Scarborough. Much cheaper and only a ten minute drive! Portland Head Light on Cape Elizabeth is beautiful, it even has swings and a picnic area too. There is also a lighthouse boat tour that runs out of the harbor that is very cool.
