I am very much for adoption. I had a wonderful adopted Golden Retriever in the past and I loved him, I will most definitely be visiting shelters once my fiancee arrives. We are fortunate enough to have an MSPCA on the Cape not too far away and in Boston. also have town specific shelters and one on Brockton. you can use Pet finder.com. I also do not recommend Tarawood in Halifax or Griffin Kennels in Hanson. Have people who purchased from each and have had health issues. No drama. Just what I've heard. But for a maximum of $500, you get an animal from the shelter who is spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, and possibly trained. Best of luck. Also, don't click the link! Go to a local all breeds dog show and watch the breed classes and meet the breeders. Research the breeds you are interested in for health issues, then ask the breeders you meet how their dogs have been bred in regards to health issues. Unfortunately, large breeds are susceptible to hip dysplasia, DM (DEGENERATIVE MYELOPATHY- a heart breaking disease that show up in Shepherds too often). I have owned show dogs for decades and I know that a puppy needs to be healthy, not just cute.My bloodhound is from a breeder that not only breeds for conformation and disposition, but from a line as free of health issues as possible.Go to the AKC.org site for upcoming all breed shows in this area.

We use Special K Kennels in Marstons Mills. They are a family owned business and they are actually quite wonderful with your pets. You can sign them up for puppy play hour and other things if you'd like too. Have never had an issue there in the 16 years we have been using them.
