Going to the dentist is very stressful for me and I get very anxious. For major work I always request happy gas. Rescue Remedy is great to take before and after. A few years ago I needed some major dental work done and went to a wholistic dentist. They had Rescue Remedy on hand for me. I think the stress and anxiety of it worsened my fibromyalgia symptoms more so than the actual procedure.

I always take a few paracetamol an hour before my appointment and if I need to be numbed up for a procedure the dentist removes the adrenaline component of the injection. There is a info sheet for dentists for Fibromyalgia patients on the web http://www.fmcmpd.org/dentist.pdf

I see Dr Mathew Ma at Kotara, he specialises in TMJ caused by fibro, he was my Dentist in the RAAF and diagnosed me in 2004, he is a lovely man. I used to have to get a local anesthetic whenever I had a scale and clean.

I also had anaphylactic reaction to sulpha & also react to sulphites in food.I have recently found I also have an allergy to Salicylate which is in medications & anaesthetic as well as many fruit & veg.Since dropping my salicylate levels by about 90% I have regained my health.Salicylate cannot be allergy tested as we have it in our body to help with blood flow ..but I believe an overload was making me ill with FM.Google Salicylate Allergy or checkout my page, You may find it interesting ☺

Mary Anne, I live at Kempsey and there are private allergy specialist at Lismore, Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie but the nearest public unit is John Hunter Hosp in Newcastle. If you need to go public, be prepared for a bit of a wait even for urgent treatment. Good luck with it hun

Hi Claire I've recently had an artificial jaw joint replacement surgery due to Osto in the Mandibular joint & it was successful, I've also had my jaw broken and reconstructed because of a similar situation like you & it to was a success I've not had any on going pain. If you live in Melbourne l would highly recommend that you see Mr. George Dimitroulis his a Oral & Maxillion facial surgeon & he has patients who come from interstate to see him. His address is 20 Collins st Melbourne Phone Number: 9654 3799. If you see him at his collins street rooms first, he can then refer you to his clinic at St vincent public hospital. He is a lovely man & is one of the top specialist in the field. I hope that this is of some help.

It's not in your head you have just experienced what so many poor patients experience from doctors that don't give a damn. If their wife, child, ect were going thur this it would be a different story. I have witnessed this for the last 25yrs working as an RN in the US. Try a gluten free diet and try to eliminate sugars which exacerbates symptoms. There's a female doctor @ OHSU in Portland, Oregon that suffers from FM and has written a book that is very insightful. Figuring Out Fibromyalgia Current Science and the most effective treatments By Ginevra Liptan, M.D. ISBN# 978-0-9828339-7-1 you must remember what people post and books that you will read are only tools to better symptom relief. What works for one person doesn't always work for others. With this chronic disease it is a lot of trail an error. Again, don't let a doctor that is apparently to incompetent to understand this disease process to discourage you. Best of luck to you Mandy:)
