There is an AMAZING woman who works up in that area (I forget which town). Her name is Jen Chace and she used to work at Bradley Hospital. She isn't a psychiatrist but is an psychiatric RN who can prescribe. I've known her for almost 20 years and she is absolutely fantastic. The Mom can call me at Community Autism Resources and I can get her the number 508-379-0371 ext 16

We saw Dr Paula St James on Belmont St, Brockton. She worked with our anxiety filled, sensory-filled ADHD son from about 4 1/2- 6 and it did help lessen the angry outbursts (not as many, not as severe). She noted the link between all three and how out of control he feels within himself creating this ultimate tantrum.

Child & Family Psychological Services has an office in Norwood. They do a good job of pairing the needs of the patient with the right therapist.

Psychiatrist recommendations? Or any help for this situation I just moved here a couple of months ago and have had issues finding a psych with availability. It hasn't...

Is it possible to find a regular Dr. (pcp), have your records sent over and they can fill them for the time being? I’ve had luck that way when a specialist was unavailable
jodiepac replied:
Often a Primary Care dr can help in this situation. I would suggest establishing with a family practice doc or internist and they can usually prescribe until you can see a psychiatrist and help you find one. I’d try Intermed or Martins Point. Good luck!

Have you tried Sweetser?

Gonna go with everyone else and say get a PCP asap and use them for referrals out, and to write your script in the meantime.
Psych availability is absolutely abysmal here under the best circumstances. It took 3 months from my PCP referral to hear back from Maine Behavioral, to be put on a 5 month waitlist to see a counselor who would be the only person able to refer me to a psych, who then also had a 6ish month waitlist. No other psych had openings. This is with private health insurance. Maine Behavioral Health is trash anyway, my therapist gave me the heads up about how they were shortening sessions to be able to bill higher rates, then she quit. I was able to find a private therapist easily, but I'm back at square one with a psychiatrist.
My PCP understands how bad it is here and is happy to write my scripts indefinitely as long as I'm seeing a therapist as well. I'm also prescribed a controlled substance- she just has me on contract the way any psych would and I have to request refills every month. No big.

Unfortunately unless you are in a crisis situation, you may end up waiting months to see a Psych. As stated above you will need to confer with your pcp or get one asap. Sadly, the Mental health care issue is nation wide. With continuing cuts to funding expect to see longer waits. Couple this with Portland being a recovery mecca right now and the needs of dual diagnosis patients and well there are extensive waits.

Touchstone Associates might have someone: http://www.touchstonemaine.com Or try: Angela Liess 100 Commerical St. (207) 536-0740 But also a regular Primary Physician should be able to help you fill in the gap with your needs.

Came here to ask about obtaining a PCP. That has already been said. Good luck and I love your user name.

Contact Nami and let them know about your situation. They will be able to connect you with someone. Also your old doc should be able to refer you to others in his practice.
