Hi I was wondering if any land/farm owners would be kind enough to allow me and my daughter to camp on their land? We are very clean and have own toilet facilities....

The Elizabethan issue for Ireland was one kettle and three frying pans per company of 100 men. Mind you that kettle cost 37 s 4 d, so it must have been huuge. In all my wanderings through period military books I came across only one reference to kettles Edward Davies “The Art of War and England’s training” 1619 - though I get the impressions that’s more of a pipkin than a cauldron. Most of books indicate that cooking is supposedly left to the sutlers and vianders following the troops. Whilst cast iron is around from 16 th century onwards. After my visit to Ironbridge the other year, I became aware that casting of modern style thin wall iron kettles did not begin until 1707. Many period kettles are sheet iron or copper or cast bronze or brass. Possible books to consult would be:- "English Bronze cooking vessels and their founders 1350-1830" by Roderick Butler and Christopher Green Iron and Brass Implements of The English House Lindsay J Seymour

If you are looking at one per one hundred men you are probably looking at something the size of the one on the Mary Rose. http://www.maryrose.org/resources/explore/cook/galley1.htm
