Agree about http://www.citybike-prague.com/rent-bike-prague/ good whole day rate, they speak English. As to your route, I would avoid going through the centre of the city, get the Metro from Namesti Republiky to Nove Butovice and start from there, the combination of cobblestone streets, trams, segways, tourists and Czech Drivers makes that part of town a nightmare. Or even better, get teh metro to Smichokse Nadrazi and ride along the river to karlstyn instead, part of the track is dirt but it is much better than the cross country route you have planned.

This is a good long route with some nice climbs. You don't need to take the metro out of the city too and the roads are good. https://www.strava.com/routes/2397937 For weekend group rides follow this page: https://m.facebook.com/pragueroadies

Finally want to get to know Croatia - Istria specifically - properly. Any tips on best places to stay on the coast, Rovinj, Pula, and all that? Late September/October,...
Diana M. replied:
depends on how many days you have in mind... I would recommend route Motovun - Porec - Rovinj - Pula - Labin with few additional stops in Visnjan, Peroj, Fazana and of course day trips to Brijuni and Rovinj Islands... http://www.rovinj.co/en/meet-rovinj/nature/ http://www.infofazana.hr/guide/sto-vidjeti-i-ciniti/izleti-po-istri/ for accommodation try www.airbnb.com
Jason H. replied:
We just came back from this place www.valamar.com stayed just outside Porec in the Tamaris resort. Superb - package holiday style place so if you have kids and want to stay put for 14 days then great. They do have other options all down the coast so worth investigating.
Diana M. replied:
definitely, but I consider this as part of Pula (since they are 10-15 km away), and they are more summer options with good beaches (Pjescana Uvala) and there is also cape Kamenjak... however, you can make great bike trips of 40 - 70 km, like this one http://www.istria-bike.com/en/bike_trails/trails/38-ch-0?&l_over=1
