Forget the hotel. Stay at Casitas Kinsol in La Colonia. You'll be away from tourists and a very short and inexpensive cab ride to the beach.

They are all reasonable priced in Puerto Morelos. It just depends what she would be comfortable with and perhaps where you are located. Case Caribe is lovely and in a great neighbourhood, right across from the best beach, several beach bars and increasing small restaurants just down the block now. Downtown is an old favourite Posada El Moro, read reviews on TA. It should be a very safe option. It's right downtown, so the action is just outside the door. Most rooms are toward the back and off a shady courtyard so quiet, tiny cold (refreshing...) pool and then Hacienda Morelos whose advantage is that it is right on the water, with a large patio/pool where the sky and sea dominate. It is an old style hotel with no recent refurbations that i know about. Some question its security. Again read the reviews. I have stayed in the last two and would stay in either again for short periods if needed. However, I now stay in Cabanas Puerto Morelos that are located next to Casa Caribe. I'm sure other people will chime in with recommendations that they have experienced or know well! Good luck!

Dog Holiday in Playa del Carmen does a great job. We have used them many times, as have friends who sometimes leave for month long holidays. You will be pleased. They also post pics on their fb page throughout the week and you might see your little buddy having the time of his life. http://www.dogholiday.com.mx/
