The on campus "community psychological service" might just be affordable since they are often in training. Also don't knock suicide prevention, help is help. If you are exhibiting physiological symptoms of depression than you are already in an abnormal way. Immediately seek help, also look into physiological issues. Take a good multivitamin with fish oil, look into it there are few vitamins, b-complex, theanine, d. Start getting enough sleep, but not too much as that is a symptom of depression too. If you're a student at a university, some schools offer free or super discounted counseling for their students. My university gave each student 10 free sessions and then it was like $12 each after that during the school year.

I'm sure you have already considered this, but it may be worth calling your insurance company if you have one about costs. I personally have an HMO plan and I can get some specific number of sessions per year covered with just having to pay a co-pay (for me is $20/session, which isn't bad if I go once or twice a month) and I want to say it's like 30 or 32 sessions a year, then after that it's not covered. Certainly it's not a solution for everyone but definitely check if you have insurance- my company has a specific phone line for mental health care questions too.

Have you spoken to your regular doctor about this? Your first step should be to rule out any physical factors that could be causing the symptoms. Thyroid issues, for example, can mimic the symptoms of depression. Go back to your GP for a simple blood test and see what comes back. After that they may be able to refer you to local resources that offer a sliding scale. Churches have resources for cheap or free counseling and it won't necessarily be dogmatic if you pick a neutral denomination. I'd shoot for Episcopalian or Unitarian or something like that.

If you are low-income, many of the more progressive states have support services that will help you with paying for a psychologist or at least group therapy. If you have insurance, they may also offer psych benefits. I know first hand how hard it can be to live with depression. Talking to people really helps quite a lot, even if it doesn't feel like it at first.

Look for a Nurse Practitioner who specializes in Psych. Nurse Practitioners are qualified/certified to do pretty much everything a Psychiatrist does, including making diagnoses and prescribing medications. Because NPs are technically nurses and not doctors, visits with one will cost less and potentially last longer, but an experienced NP will be just as good as the Psychiatrists they work alongside. Then the ear noise began and I made calls in anger...the BI located a senior, private practice physician. I had SHINGLES in my sinuses and My hearing was at risk. As so many people said you need a specialist not a primary care person and fortunately we have a Mass Eye an Ear place in Quincy at Crown Colony. Konowitz or and of the ENT doctors there will fix it. Mass Eye and Ear is rated the number one ENT hospital in the country.

Did not like Granite Medical. Primary Dr missed something big. Next door is Beth Isreal at crown colony. Think a new male Dr just joined practice . That is where I go now
