My man, you can also go to a GP, they are much much cheaper and can also prescribe the same medication. On top of that in my experience psychiatrists are always booked full and can sometimes take up to 2 weeks to get an appointment. So I'd recommend going to a GP immediately, but then also a psychiatrist at a later stage (as they are more specialized). Good luck, I know anxiety is fucking horrible. The doctor will probably prescribe you an anti-depressant (likely Cilift (Citilopram) or Lexamil (Escitilopram)) and a benzodiazepine (probably Xanor). Since this is your first time you will likely only get a 2 weeks supply and will then need to see the doctor again (just to gauge how you are doing, this a legal requirement I think). Also, since people have different biological makeups the prescribed anti-depressant may not work for you, and you might have to switch medication. I've heard about this happening but I'm not too sure how common it actually is. Personally I never had to switch. The anti-depressants take a while to start working (2 weeks to 4 weeks), so the benzodiazepines will help in the mean time. Only use the benzodiazepines when necessary though, you will likely not get too many and they can be habit forming. And it's a hard habit to kick (I've heard) and will send your anxiety into outer space. In case you are wondering: why anti-depressants? The simple explanation that is usually given is that anxiety and depression are two sides of the same coin. So even you do not suffer from depression, that medication will help you. Don't be afraid of the anti-depressants, you'll hear a lot of shit on the internet, either attacking your character for taking them, or them being bad for you. It's all a bunch of hippy shit. That being said they do have some side effects, nothing too serious but they can be annoying, but to someone in your position it's not relevant right now. You can cross that bridge when you get there. Also you'll have to use the anti-depressants for at least 9 months to a year. Don't stop taking them when you feel better. Source: 10 years experience with this shit EDIT: I've looked through your post history and would just like to reiterate: benzos are only a short term solution until the anti-depressant start to work. DO NOT get dependent on benzos. That shit will fuck you up and make any problems you have now a million times worse.

Going through your post history, You dont need a Psychiatrist, You need to stop messing with drugs Antidepressants and drugs are a really scary mix. Sort your health out first before going further

Find one that aligns with your personal world view. e.g. I went to one that was super Christian. I'm an Atheist. Didn't work out. You can also try taking some beta blockers. (You'll need a script). And maybe some meditation?

Not a doctor or a psychiatrist so I won't tell you what to do, but I'd like to share what's worked for me. Had pretty bad anxiety about three years ago, along with the panic attacks, major depression and suicidal ideation. Worst feeling in the world. GP prescribed anti-depressants, which I hated and stopped taking after a week, along with Urbanol, a mild benzodiazepine that's like a handy little off-switch for anxiety. I've taken maybe 20 Urbanols in the last 3 years, but just knowing that they're there when I need them has basically 'cured' my anxiety. Running for 30 mins also switches it off completely and daily exercise has kept my anxiety and depression away almost completely for the last few years. I recently learnt an awesome breathing technique that also stops anxiety and stress in their tracks for me - breathe in for 4 counts, hold your breath for 6 counts, breathe out for 8 counts - so 4-6-8 breathing. Do it three times in a row and it resets your head a little. What also worked for me is treating that anxious feeling like thirst or hunger - something impermanent and not part of my mind or who I am - just a signal that my brain is a little low on dopamine. Finally, just being able to tell someone when it got really bad also helped a lot, so if you want to, PM me if you ever feel kak and just want to tell someone.
