Favorite local businesses? Hi! My fiancé and I are moving into our apartment in KC next week. We’re new to the area and have never visited before. We’d love to try...

KCK has numerous fantastic Mexican restaurants. El Pollo Rey, El Camino Real, Jarocho, Don Antonio's, Bonito Michoacan, Tacos El Matador. I'm sure I'm leaving many out, but these are all very legit Mexican restaurants of different styles.

Welcome to KC!
**Best Mexican** \- El Torito (Central Ave, KCK) - hands down in my opinion. They don't do curbside, but are exceptionally organized. For my bday, we had 3 pounds of meats, tortillas, salsas, onions, cilantro for $23. The tip was almost as large. You can also shop on their grocery store side which has great chips, salsa (the mocaletje is awesome), and guacamole. It's also the most organized store I've seen in KC - they required us to sanitize our hands, wear gloves, and we already had on masks. Their lines are moving fast and the store has changed where some items are to improve flow.
A close second is Jarocha (seafood), with third being El Pollo Rey
**Restaurants** \- El Torito (Central Ave, KCK), Waldo Thai, Happy Gillis, Westside Local, Joe's KC, Bob's Wasabi (Sushi), Meshuggah Bagel, Elsa's Ethiopian, Local Pig and Pigwich, Columbus Park Ramen, Alladin's Cafe, and Papu's
**Desserts** \- Andres (cakes and chocolates), Andys (Custard), and Ashleigh's Bakeshop (pies)
**Coffee** \- Second Best (closed for now), Crows (closed for now), Hi Hat (Open), and Black Dog (Open)
**Shops/Services** \- Dime Store (Brookside), Ambrosia Brothers, Made in KC

Sushi Uni in Lenexa is the best sushi I've had in years. And it's reasonable.

My favorite Mexican place is Taqueria Mexico (location \#1, on Southwest Blvd). I haven't made it down there since quarantine, so can't attest to their food pickup experience.
In the Northland, my favorite pizza is Northern Lights (I order from them fairly frequently and am happy with their delivery). If you find yourself south of the Plaza though, you also want to check out Waldo Pizza (great with curbside pickup).
I also prefer Jack Stack for BBQ, but I'd wait till after quarantine before trying...their menu is currently limited and the food wasn't all that great when we tried carry out.
Our vet in the northland is Willow Hill Animal Clinic, been going to them since we moved here in '06. Dentist is in the same shopping center, North Oak Family Dental...they've been good to me.

Gladstone Animal Clinic is great. My yorkie trusts them. Wish they still had grooming, not sure why they have trouble staffing that department.

What area of KC are you moving to? People may be able to point you to local places in your area.

KC Cattle Company is located in Weston, MO. We raise Wagyu Beef and ship to all 50 states, but we also offer free local delivery to 73 Kansas City zip codes on Friday’s. Our hot dogs were voted best in the world by Food and Wine!

I work at McLain’s Bakery in the Waldo area. Seriously such good desserts. We have cakes and your standard breakfast pastries/coffee but have a breakfast and lunch menu too. We currently have a walk-up window and you can do online orders ahead. We’ve been lucky to have a lot of local support during all of this. It’s been a KC shop for 75 years! Get a box of cup cookies if you come by- they’re sooo good!

Martin City Brewing Company. The best pizza and their beer is fantastic. We go nearly every Sunday because their happy hour is 50% off beer and they constantly have coupons out for 50% off a large pizza if you join their beer club. The staff is always so kind and we couldn’t love it more.

Ixtapa is exceptional Mexican food in the Northland and could really use the support, they were all set to open a second location and then the crisis hit, so they are basically stuck. Their current location is an unassuming strip mall next to a gas station, but the food and people are fantastic.

If you have pets then I can not recommend Olathe Pet Shop highly enough. The owner is a great guy and he treats his employees very well and ensures that they are all highly trained and knowledgeable about the products and animals in their store. His store is always clean and the animals are well cared for. There is also a self service dog washing bay in the back. Located at 151 st and Mur-Len.

Looking for a good primary care/women's health doctor. Who has a doctor they love?
Joan F. replied:
Dr. Pamela Weinhold at KU Med West. Excellent doctor, but may not be accepting new patients.
Andrea P. replied:
Dr. Carter or Dr. Moore (both female doctors for Women's health) are very good. They are in the same practice/location as Dr. Matile at 4400 Broadway. For primary care, Dr. Natalie Key at St. Lukes internal is really good but sometimes hard to get into see.

I also go to Dr Carter and would definitely recommend her.
