What kind of camping are you up for? I believe primitive camping as allowed at Muleshoe Bend near Austin, and they have one of the best blue bonnet displays ever! At least they did last year, before Lake Travis recovered from it's drought. Pace Bend also allows primitive horse camping, not quite as spectacular, but within a short distance to Muleshoe.
