Almost all grocery stores use frozen cakes that they just thaw and decorate. The exceptions are Costco, Albertsons, and Vons that bake from a mix on the premises and will be comparable in the quality of ingredients. Next, would be a local bakery that makes cakes from scratch with higher quality ingredients. I'm not sure where you live, but every cake I've had from Simply Cakes on Limonite has been delicious.
