I used Dr Ottman but he's in Carmichael by Mercy San Juan but thought he was brilliant!
Full disclaimer--I have been in touch with good equine ophthalmologists and am now digesting some potential options.

Hi Kim, Wondering the Vets thoughts and reasons for wanting to pull the fluid in order to check for the Lepto? I have 3 of my 7 horses + for Lepto titers. The 3 that were + also all have ERU. One went blind very quickly bilaterally, one blind in one eye and no s/sx as of yet in the other eye and teh 3rd horse responded very well and quickly to traditional medical management and has no apparent eye damage. We are patients of Dr. m. Lassaline who is the head Equine Ophthalmologist at UC Davis. She had us to try oral Doxycycline for 60 days on all 3 horses and we re tested Titers after the treatment. She said that the Doxy itslef being an antibiotic but also showed some properties of anit-inflammatory nature. So, we were not treating with the antibiotic in hopes of reversing my horses eye damage/blindness but really to see if the titers would go down and i think honestly to see what we might could learn in that she and the otehr Vets at UCD had not personally had experience with a far that had multiple cases of ERU like our. I am just curious why your Vet would want to test the fluid because from my understanding knowing if it is Letpo or another bacteria..wouldn't change the treatment. I have no experience with Vitrectomy so i look forward to hearing more from you. Oh and btw...the repeat titers really didnt teach us anything...if any thing I think it reminded us how little will still dont know about this extremely devastating disease.
