Dawn. You need to get what's called a wind mitigation survey done on the home, this will determine what discounts you are entitled to. Costs around $100 but is well worth it. Hurricane is covered but at a different deductible, generally, 2 to 5% of homes insured value, the higher the deductible the lower the premium. Flood insurance is sold separately from homeowners. I have replacement cost insurance, on a $350K home 2% hurricane, $1,000 all other perils deductibles with a new roof/secondary water barrier, hurricane shutters and hurricane garage door the premium is about $1150 a year, was over $1500 before I had the roof done. Flood runs $450 a year. I use Olympus Insurance for the home, ASI for flood, the agent is Bill Bay with Tropical Bay out of Venis.

When you have your home inspection done, be sure to use an inspector who is able to provide a wind mitigation report. You will need this for your wind coverage. Flood insurance depends on where you are located (in or out of flood zone) and elevation. Best of luck!

I have Geico and they have gone up an average of $20. every 6 months. I just got my bill for $413.10. I called State Farm and the AARP Hartford Group. Neither could beat Geico. I have a 2010 H3 if that makes a difference I don’t know but will be sticking with Geico fir now

From experience, you’re going to have high premiums in FL. If you want to have no issues when making a claim, stick with State Farm (Allstate also good in paying claims). If you want to battle to get a few pennies, then switch to geico or progressive, the worse in actually protecting you. Been there, done that.

If you are a veteran or have a child in military, we got the best rate from USAA. Changed from Nationwide last year when we got a big rate increase - no accidents or tickets in 40+ years and the car is 15 years old. While I was teaching, we got great rates from Horace Mann for a co-owned car with my son.

Used Geico for several years and they kept going up in price. When I called they just had me cut coverage. I moved here & went to Chris Costello with Allstate. He is great. It's good to find someone that will check around & get you the lowest prices. He is in the Publix shopping center by Gasprilla road.

it depends on your driving record, the stats for your particular car, your average milage, and your credit rating. Liberty Mutual was 1000 a year for my 2013 nissan Murano. And that was less that i was paying in MA.

State Farm is very expensive here in Fl, you will find better.

We got our new State Farm bill for a 2006 Lincoln truck and it was $900 per 6 months. I just went with Auto Owners and am paying $800 annually for better coverage.

I've got UPC through Hardin Agency. Apparently UPC was the best premium they could get 4 me. I think it's around $1200/year. Haven't had any claims yet, so can't speak for UPC's performance. Meanwhile, if you find a good, less expensive one, please let me know, as I was hoping to do better this time around, what with new roof and all.
