Helping a fried out, does anyone know a transporter or transport company that can ship from the east coast to utah for a reasonable price by chance?
Brian H. replied:
Movecars.com goes through central dispatch and the vast majority of cars moving from point a to b go through central dispatch. Usually costs around a grand from the east coast to here.
Jay D. replied:
Check uship.com too, I've used them a few times.
Nick M. replied:
I have two friends who do cross country shipping like that, what are the details? Also check out uship.com

I have had great success with First Rate Auto Transport. Moved 2 cars for me, one from Sacramento to ND and one from ND to Ohio. Prices are incredibly fair and service is top notch

http://www.transportreviews.com No matter what you do, review the company on this site. It's the mecha of transport info.
Looking for cross country movers with a great reputation. Have any of you moved cross country and were really happy with your moving company??

Old dominion doesn't do pods. You load the trailer, we put up a security divider so no one touches your stuff until it arrives at the new house. You only pay per foot of the trailer space that you use. I guarantee that it is cheaper then using a pod or any moving service, because my own family has priced out all options and went with this one because it was the cheapest. You either have to load yourself though, or find someone to load for you is the only problem. Check it out at www.odfl.com. Good luck!

My husband is the operations manager for all my sons moving and storage. We used them to move from Omaha to Utah. We did not have one scratch on our furniture or walls. 801-475-9100

We used Allied as well. Considered Mayflower and United Van Lines. All were very competitive on price. We had the move us (1,500 miles) and pack us. Allied had a higher claim rate but not by much; plus their customer service was awesome. The contact he re, Bracken, works for Baileys who is locally owned but partners with Allied. Recommended that you go with someone who comes out to your home and takes inventory, not a quote over the phone (those guys are usually a Broker or middle man just taking their cut for the contact). Also ask for their DOT number and look them up on this government site: https://www.protectyourmove.gov In the end we lost one box but nothing was damaged and they were on-time. Good luck! Also if going across country, PODS won't save you much money at all. Only reason I'd move PODS is if you need to store stuff because your destination location isn't available to accept your belongs.
Anybody know any good movers? I'm moving today and am worried about the stairs in the new apartment.
Anybody know of a good moving company?

The last couple of times I've moved, I just rented a uhaul and then hired a few day laborer guys from outside the home depot. It usually works out to be something like 50 for the truck and 150 for the guys. This is way cheaper than what most moving places seem to charge

Last time I hired movers it was about $1400. I used two man movers and they were great. Actually had enough stuff that I had a team of four come out.

I've used these guys a few times - [EMC](http://saltlakecity.craigslist.org/lbs/4299995987.html). They do good work although they usually send more than what I asked for meaning it costs more per hour but gets done faster. They provide the truck and work really quickly. It works out best if everything is mostly packed up already. They'll start grabbing stuff and loading it up quickly. I've used them to move my office and apartment. A 2 bedroom basement apartment with a large storage shed ended up costing me less than $300 total I think. It took about 3 hours. Much better than trying to wrangle a bunch of friends and spending all day moving.

I've used [Rocky Mountain Movers](http://www.rockymountainmovers.net/) three times now, and they've been great. Very reasonably priced, and they did a good job.

Thanks guys, I used ez movers. They were very fast and reasonable.
Anybody who's had a car transported long-haul have a recommendation for a transport company - local or otherwise? I thought about closed for safety and professionalism,...
Grant E. replied:
I used First Rate Auto Transport 2 times and they were amazing. They are a broker but usually willing to find exactly what you need. They moved my Z4M Coupe and my Touring. They also managed to find by far the cheapest prices on both vehicles Ive moved. Both moved on open carrier trailers, but they did not have a second level.
Grant E. replied:
While I highly recommend First Rate Autotransport, if you go with any other company look them up on www.transportreviews.com for what ever company you use, and NEVER pay for the movement of your car upfront. The only thing you should be "Paying" for upfront is giving your card to the broker to have on file. They will run this AFTER your car is delivered for the broker fee.

Thanks, Grant! I was looking at that site earlier. I did get a quote from one of those on the list: Montway. They're the cheapest I've found at about a grand for open or $1259 for enclosed. Reliable and Passport are about $1600 and $1750 for closed, respectively. Ouch. One local company - Carnections - is close to cheapest for open at just over a grand, but are almost $1500 for closed. The $1259 enclosed option is attractive. I'll check out First Rate Auto Transport later.
Steve C. replied:
Got quote back from First Rate Auto Transport this AM - $1090. Very competitive for open transport. About as good as it gets, I think. The only other cheaper quote I got was 1009, and with the thumbs-up from you, I'd go with First Rate. But, the enclosed transport deal for $1259 is very alluring. That's a smokin' deal if real. The dealer also said he had somebody, but honestly... It's a solid 1500 miles one way, so a four-day drive round-trip from Louisiana to Utah and back. I sure as hell wouldn't do it for this kind of money. But, I suppose if the driver can add a couple of paying customers to the trip, it could get more lucrative.
We need a professional moving company. Can anyone give me ideas? It's a local move. Thank you :)
