I lived in hotels for a couple months while finding a place to live. Radisson Rancho Bernardo was fairly cheap at a little over $100 a day and included a good hot breakfast. Courtyard Marriott across the street can occasionally be had for about the same. I'm a little fussier and paranoid about bedbugs, so steered clear of the absolute bargain basement ones. Pleasant Inn in Clairmont is cheap too, but shitty parking.
whiskeypeak replied:
You have fb man? There's a group on fb called San Diego housing room-mates or something like that. It has I think ~20 k members (could be less/more too lazy to check), try posting on there. It's pretty active with daily posts.
NeptuNeo replied:
I would check AirBnB and VRBO, you can do monthly rentals and places give a discount for longer rentals, and if money is tight you could just rent a room cheaper than a hotel on these sites until you find a new place. As for apartment searches, I always recommend [Apartments.com](https://Apartments.com), lots of listings there
Matingas replied:
You can live in hotels in Tijuana for around $60-100 a week. Or rent a place for $400 or so.
Checkout townspeople.org ... they might have an option or more info. Good luck! There are a few weekly hotels in hillcrest but don’t know their cost or vacancy situation.

CzinDeathGod replied:
Easiest and cheapest way to get to UCSD would probably be using Supershuttle. Instruction ends on 5 th June and then it's finals week till like 12 th(?). Geisel is open to everyone so getting in there won't be a problem.

SOMEONE SHOW THIS PERSON WHAT UCSD IS ALL ABOUT (kindness + unbelievable academia)!!!
**Transportation**: Airport to school cost $25 via lyft, which i recommend doing. Busses here aren't very convenient. But if you wanna see for yourself, just google maps it.
**Housing**: Try joining UCSD free and for sale group, and housing group on facebook. See if you can exchange cooking or cleaning or a little cash for a place to stay. Otherwise just search through AirBnb.
**Classes**: Just ask around when you get to campus for big lecture halls. And try to spot people rolling into one. Ask them if there is a quiz or test, (which is unlikely unless they looked stress and are studying right before hand) and than just walk in. Would recommend doing it on monday, wednesday, or friday, because those classes tend to only be 50min vs hour n 20min (if my memory still holds). Good luck.
FYI if I was still a student or in SD, I would host you in a second fo free.
Kuryaka replied:
Buses are not convenient at all. You'll need to take a bus, then transfer to a train/trolley, then hopefully get on the 150 express to UCSD. The last leg takes 30 minutes by express line, and about an hour by normal bus. :/ Take Uber or Lyft. Classes will be going on for the next three weeks, finals after that. Summer session begins five weeks from now.
anonposter replied:
Are there any specific classes you'd like to see? If you're interested in seeing a general chemistry class (we're doing kinetics, nuclear chemistry, and coordination chemistry in the next few weeks), I TA for one MWF 9-9:50. I'm going to guess that you're going to take gen chem, unless yore a social science/humanities major. I would be happy to chat with you and answer whatever questions you have. I also have an upper division chemistry class (inorganic chemistry, involving metals and lower main group elements) you can sit in on, MWF 4-4:50.
Otherwise I can try to look up classes for you to visit (I think only students can see the class schedule).
How long are you staying? we can give you some suggestions on places to see if you have time.
DTKing replied:
I usually Uber from the airport to campus, it costs around $20 IIRC.

There's a few hotels near UCSD. In order of closeness, they are: Estancia, Residence Inn, Sheraton, Hyatt, and Mariott. They are all kind of expensive, though (all around $150-200 per night), so yeah I suggest looking on the UCSD Free and For Sale facebook group to see if someone can let you sleep in their apartment or something, especially if you're only there for one night.
You should check out the [UCSD Class Schedule](https://act.ucsd.edu/scheduleOfClasses/scheduleOfClassesStudent.htm) to see what time and where the classes you want to check out are. If you reference that page with the [UCSD Course Descriptions](http://www.ucsd.edu/catalog/front/courses.html) page, you can get a good idea of what classes you might be interested in visiting. The following campus map website is the best I've used since it even gives you walking-time estimates:

Glad you chose UCSD! I'm actually from Oakland too! No buses unfortunately. You can probably book a SuperShuttle (or any other company) or see if UCSD has holiday shuttles during those times. Classes end at June 5 th and a week of finals is after that. Geisel should be open. Make sure to check out other cool things like the Stuart Art Collection and Birch Aquarium. Feel free to ask any other questions!

im sure theres a public bus you can take from the airport to UCSD. Google maps is a good source to plan out that. its about to be week 8, so that means theres 3 weeks of classes including this one. then we have finals. Geisel library will be open for the next 4 weeks, you can google the exact times i know nothing about hotels, so cant help you there.

Hello Lucinda, if your plan includes staying at Los Barriles (little beach town between La Paz and Los Cabos) you might be interested in this Airbnb: https://www.airbnb.mx/rooms/17179576, plenty of space to park your van and big house to have some rest from the road life. As someone suggested before, if you pass through El Triunfo (tiny town between Los Barriles and La Paz) you should stop at Café El Triunfo, their bread is indeed wonderful. In Todos Santos (town south of La Paz) you'll find plenty of options to eat. I would recommend Tré galline inside the Cafe Todos Santos coffee shop, it's a italian restaurant where they make their own pasta. In La Paz you must have coffee a https://www.facebook.com/684552284922237 t Doce Cuarenta Cafe and Have https://www.facebook.com/182141435193711 a local brewed beer and oven made pizzas at Harker Board Co. just in time to watch the sunset from their terrace (at around 6 p.m.). I live in the area so let me know if you need help with anything.

Hmmmm...”noobie” makes me assume you have never been in Baja before. Please correct if incorrect. First you will need to stop at the border to get FMM “visa.” You can get online but still have to stop to get it stamped so IMO it’s just as easy to take the extra 5 minutes at the border. That said, you need to choose the crossing. I personally use Otay as it’s smaller than San Ysidro and 1.5 hrs shorter than Tecate. Tecate is less marked for driving but more picturesque through the Guadalupe Valley into Ensenada. Highway 1 can be Very hard on people. I happen to enjoy it, but you will may comments that rival horror stories. I stay at Mision Santa Maria Hotel south of San Quintin; Terra Sal in Guerrero Negro; Desert Inn in San Ignacio along the way The most important thing, again, IMO, is gas. Actually knowing where to gas up. Well, before that just don’t drive in the dark. I leave with a full tank, get gas in El Rosario, then Vizcaino ( I sometimes overnight in Guerrero Negro and get gas in the morning in Vizcaino), then I’m good to Loreto, my destination. If going on I’d suggest an overnight in Loreto. Gas up and then get gas in La Paz. From there you are good to Cabo. The split of using 1 or 19 is a matter of choice. I’d suggest taking one south and one north. You must however stop in El Triumpho for lunch or at least pick up some Cranberry Walnut or Garlic bread at the bakery. Their bread is wonderful. Id also recommend in a stop in San Jose del Cabo for breakfast or lunch at Cafe Lolita.

Bring the cash you think you will need for the whole trip . Camping is fine, just stay in a campground . Baja Cactus hotel in El Rosario is good, and are the 'gringo' rooms at Palapa 206 in Constitution . How much $$ will you need to bring? That's subjective .... bring more $$ than you think you will need, because you never know what emergencies will pop-up, if any . Better safe than sorry ! Just about everywhere you go, you will find nice folks, great food, neat stuff to see and do . We Love the area around Abreojos - Campo Rene and the town of La Bocana are great places to visit . Have a fun, safe trip ! We will be in Campo Rene after the 22 nd, so drop in for a visit -

Starting from Scorpion Bay and heading south - less than half day drive to Conejo or Marquez for surf and camp. Few hour drive into La Paz. Paddleboard with Harker Board Co, have lunch with him, Pizza is out of this world. Or head to Balandra bay and snorkel, paddleboard, kayak, whatever you got. Head south to La Ventana/Punta Arena, camp at the light house. If you want a place to stay, go see Palapas Ventana in La Ventana. Nice casitas. Full restaurant on site. Boats for fishing or snorkeling out at island. Easy drive to Cabo Pulmo going through San Antonio, check out Arboles, less touristy, more bueno. South again to east Cape, find sure wherever. Drive through Puerto Los Cabo's, either head north towards airport and go to Santiago for water fall and hot springs. Hilton residence in Cabo San Lucas is under $80 a night last I checked. Paddleboard with Cabo SUP, Lee and Gunther will dial in you in. North to Todos, stop at Cerritos for Surf. Stay at Bohemia in Town, ask for Janine.
Deborah H. replied:
In La Paz, there is often good salsa music and dancing at Stella's on weekend. Take your daughter on boat ride to Isla Espiritu Santo from Tecolote beach, and then rent paddle boards at Balandra beach. Lots of good restaurants and lodging in La Paz. Then, Cerritos beach is south of Todos Santos and good for surfing. And on Sundays there is a nice craft market and usually live music at Baja Beans in Pescadero. I can highly recommend Serendipity B & B in Todos Santos, but it is not in the cheap category, just fair price for wonderful lodging, food and beautiful beach. I don't know anything about Cabo, sorry, but with all this in La Paz and Todos Santos, you might just skip Cabo!
