Contact the NY state AG's office. Schneiderman is not a fan of non-compete agreements. https://ottingerlaw.com/blog/defeating-non-competition-agreements/ https://www.littler.com/publication-press/publication/ny-attorney-general-schneiderman-declares-“war”-non-compete-agreements

>Would be great if I could find someone who can provide a free or inexpensive consultation just to see if I have a case for breaking out of the non-compete. And it would be great if my bills were free or inexpensive too. The firm just linked by /u/payeco Littler Mendelsohn is excellent in labor law but they don't fit your criteria. If you change your mind, I can make a referral.

recommendation: http://www.nycjobattorney.com/ In employment matters, plaintiffs initial consultations are usually free. Another option is the [NYC Bar Referral Service](http://www.nycbar.org/get-legal-help/), you get a 1/2 hour for $35, there's no obligation to retain the attorney further.

Michael Tersigni and his sister, Andrea are top-notch. AT specializes in L&E and MT focuses on business compliance, agreements, and contracts. http://www.mtfglaw.com/index.html

My company is a nationwide 8 billion a year publicly traded company and they dont even try to enforce non competes in nyc because they hold no merit. Not sure if it changes sector to sector or contract to contract. I assume it does

I am inspired further to leave the following comment. There is only one sub on Reddit that requires written proof that someone is an admitted attorney before he or she can join. That's /r/lawyers which is open only to lawyers. In order to join /r/ask_lawyers you first have to be a member of /r/lawyers but I don't think they would allow your question there. Just because someone says he or she is a lawyer on Reddit means nothing. Feel free to not believe I am one either.
