I got cataract and corneal implant in one eye in March with Dr. Orlich in Sabana.. We had no insurance covoverage and the staff spoke English as I requied an English speaking person as my Spanish was and still is poor. If you want more details, PM me.

My wife just had cataract surgery earlier this year. Her doctor was Dra. Adriana Van der Laat Rocha. She works in the CIMA complex. Her number is 506-2208-8118. My wife was very satisfied.

There are several eye doctors at CIMA. I use Dr. Carlos Cabezas, ph. 2208-8412, Suite 412 in Tower 2. He speaks perfect English. Unfortunately, the receptionist doesn't.

From what I have been told from those who live here, very few with existing American Health Care living here is accepted by Dr.'s or hospitals. Most will pay out of pocket, submit bills for reimbursement, some are paid and some not all depending on each ones individual policy. Much cheaper and faster to simply fly back to USA, have procedures done and return the vast majority of the time for most people.

People - the reality is if one gets cancer or something like that we ALL here KNOW it can take a YEAR to get an appointment & most of us have known people that HAVE left CR BECAUSE the care is NOT good for someone with a serious illness. Emergency care is different & even at that - some have great experiences & some die or have problems. It's all a crap shot with the CAJA. What nursing home are you talking about in Escazu Judy as that's definately not Verdeza as they're LOTS more $$ AND you have to pay a big chunk TO buy into it there. I've been here over 10 years & it's been a VERY SLOW movement getting retirement homes to open in CR. They're few & far between BUT they ARE opening Narda Siders Woods.

One other thing to think of when choosing where to live in Costa Rica is the level of Spanish that you speak. It will be a loosing proposition to move to some beautiful, but remote area where no one speaks English and you don't speak Spanish. Try out an area with a pretty good expat population as a start. Eventually, as your Spanish improves and you figure out how things work in Costa Rica, only then should you consider living in that beautiful, but remote area. Of course access to good medical care is also an important factor, so you might need to research the local hospitals too. As an example, we live near Atenas, but the main CAJA hospital is in Alajuela, at least a 30 minute drive.

Dr Slon in Heredia He is located one block from the Church in downtown. There is also another Dr I know his name is Oscar last name I think starts with a C maybe Campo . His office is across from the new Heredia Hospital at the traffic light. When we lived in Heredia we were going to both of them and they are good Drs.

You should come see Greg Damato today at curridabat. He is a scientific doctor with humongous knowledge on energetics etc... today he is talking about superfoods but he is available for private sessions sometimes. He does not como to the central valley often . Google concious living school for info. Today is the last day. He is in a different ball park as anyone you mention... really.

Clinica San Rafael is excellent & shopping has improved over the last 10 years.

I am near there at the beach great health care. Cima hospital my Gastro dr in another hospital in the center of town. My beeches ear nose and throat guys there. Many physicians. Shopping no Macy's. Good roads near beaches. Fast food. Some nice restaurants. Movies

I assume you are talking about real diabetes care and not fringe miracle food/pill cures. I go to Dr. Update who cones out to Liberia once a month. I am also on an Insulin pump that I purchased here from Meditek who also work closely with Dr. Image.
