Believe it is, just don't let the Rental agencies sell you the Kitchen Sink, just buy what is absolutely necessary, I am sure that your Credit Card or Insurance at home may pay for any damages, they will scare you to death and you will pay as much or more for the Insurance that what the rental is worth, you will have to buy Third party Liability, Those guys are like Timeshare salesmen, they grab the leg and won't let go so be firm and say no. Most speak English

But there are cheaper ones and don't forget when they say compact they mean TINY, a Jimmy is a 4 Wheel 4 x 4 but it is the Old Samurai that was banned in the States years ago, A good size is a RAV 4 but they are more expensive and GAS IS $6 a gallon and the speed limit is 50 MPH so don't need a Power House that eats more gas than Pinto Beans, Most if not all the roads that you are going to be on are going to be paved but it is always better to get a higher profile vehicle as you never know when you turn on a road that you will be on paved roads GOOD LUCK and enjoy, my number is 83537386 call with any q's I will be glad to answer them (if I know them)

You can drive your rental car onto the very cheap ferry in Puntarenas and boat it to Paquera. About $10 will save you 2 hrs drive time and it's super fun! From there you drive off of the boat 15-20 minutes to montezuma (great place for a snorkeling excursion or a beer with a gorgeous view). Overnight in mar y Cielo hotel, then drive up the peninsula. The roads suck once you are out of montezuma, so don't drive at night. www.becominganexpat.com

Harmony Hotel in Nosara is amazing but not inexpensive although that is kind of the off season so maybe a decent rate. We live in Nosara. For cervezas you can't beat Olga's Bar at Playa Peleda. Laid back and right on the beach. Great lunch and dinner specials too.

Any suggestions for dog-friendly San Jose airport hotel with a shuttle service? Proximity to airport is key since our flight is extremely early in the morning. Thanks!!

Try Dos Palmas for super close. Vida Tropical may take pets, not sure.

We just stayed at Adventure Inn 2 weeks ago. Good price for the room. Don't plan on eating in the restaurant. I hope that is the last $10 casado I see.
Deb M. replied:
Vida Tropical is pet friendly, in Alajuela and arranges a cab for you to get to the airport.
Vicki S. replied:
Carrie, Make sure the airport taxi or shuttle ALLOWS pets as I've had numerous taxi drivers refuse to transport pets.

Hey guys looking for a cheap hotel by SJO any ideas? Perhaps someplace that Interbus picks up, or if anyone knows of a evening shuttle service to peurto viejo ?
Terry S. replied:
Buses Mepe go to Puerto Viejo like $6. Cheap place to stay around bus station, creepy area but do the holets.com or airbnb.com. $25 a night at cacoon hotel online. pretty descent and safe.
Looking for a car service/taxi to take me from Escazú to playa hermosa or jaco. Any suggestions or advice?
Margaret A. replied:
I pay $30 for taxi from Escazu to airport. They charge more like 12000 colones, but I give them 15000 because of help with heavy luggage. Same charge meter and no meter. I have been told $100 to Jaco a number of times. Maybe some drivers charge less because they want to go to beach. My regular driver offered to take me for less when he was going anyway. Bus is $5 and takes less than 2 hours. Gold Card makes bus about $1.50.....senior discount card for legal residents issued by CCSS.

So his base is Tamarindo? How is his English? Is he a Paradore or just doing this privately? Since red taxi's are getting SOOOO expensive (they were like 385 when I moved here 8 years ago & now they're 605-c), I think it's time to also start a list of English Speaking trustworthy Paradores & Private Drivers (to go with my English-speaking Legal/Red Taxi Driver list - http://LivingLifeInCostaRica.blogspot.com/2012/08/EnglishSpeakingTaxisCR.html)
