Hi guys! I've got a question. I've got a medical condition that requires saline infusions (through a chest port). Does anyone know if I will be able to find a place to...
Claire W. replied:
You might want to start at the top with one of the bigger hospitals in Managua where you're more like to find someone who knows about your condition. Then he/she may be able to keep a local MD informed in case of emergency. There was a recent discussion on Expats of Managua about the hospitals there--might be worth researching: scroll down to find it--it starts with a link to Vivian Pellas: https://www.facebook.com/groups/518223518282822/

Chiropractor's name is Andrew in the Escuela Integral (Casa de Cultura). The name if his practice is Elixer Center. They do massage and sell holistic things there too. Also, the dad in Casa Romano is an orthopedic physician. He works at the hospital in Rivas but my cousin went to him a few times at the house when he was here. Dr. Romano does not speak English but all of his children do.

the Hospital Metropolitano Vivian Pellas (HMVP) in Managua has opened a 12,000,000 Cordoba (US $472,000) Dental Center to complement their existing medical services. The clinic has three dental surgeries that will be able to meet current demand; however there is room for expansion as needed. The HMVP Dental Center offers a full range of specialty dental services such as; general dentistry, oral rehabilitation, maxillofacial surgery, endodontics, periodontics, orthodontics, implantology and cosmetic dentistry. They even offer a 24 hour emergency service. Del Sur News, January 2014

Speaks English and have been going to him for a couple years. He has an oral surgeon available and a root canal specialist. http://www.davidmadriz-dds.com/davidmadriz1.html One of the numbers on the site is his wife's cell. She speaks English as well.
Claire W. replied:
Dra Ximena Urbina in Granada specializes in root canals and speaks English. She is a mother and I imagine she would be gentle with a little one. Sorry have to rush, so don't have contact info. to hand, but she's on FB and can be googled.
Yasmin B. replied:
Dr. Madriz is rough, especially for a child. We highly recommend Dr. Salvador Carillo in Managua. 8958-2602. He speaks English and is excellent
Yasmin B. replied:
We went to both Drs. Madriz for several years, then found someone who did better work with better
Jennifer M. replied:
I had a root canal done in Managua by an endodontist. He was fluent in English and very gentle.I've blanked on his name but he was referred by Dr. Madriz who was hesitant to do the procedure. Dr, Madriz is a great guy but not the man for a root canal on a child.
Anastasiia L. replied:
Yes, it's baby tooth and we looking into avoiding root canal after talking to Dr, Madriz via email. I have not been happy with a root canal idea for baby tooth to begin with but we were left assuming it's the only option - as they said just pulling it could mess up his permanent teeth later. But they can put spacer in or even try to just pack it and wait - don't know why doctor at SunCare didn't bring up those options... Tempted to simply try taking him to the other dentist right here first (especially since it's literally next door to us (but they were not open when his tooth was really bothering him). Thanks everyone a lot - i think I have enough info to figure something out now. But if anybody has had similar problem with little ones - would appreciate you sharing:)

Hi all. I need to see a doctor in town tomorrow. Someone competent who takes lab tests. Not the clinic. Recommendations please? !
Laura V. replied:
Dr. Martin is phenominal!!! Totalally recommend him and he is 1/2 block south of Claro in Rivas....
Kelvin M. replied:
There is lab on the way out of SJdS next to where Roberto the barber used to be. Or go to Farmacia Comunal and make an appointment at the back. But if you have been to the clinic and decided they are not competent, then you may wish to take yourself to one of the many private hospitals in Managua and choose which level of competence you wish to pay for.
