Multi vet in Granada is great and will also come to San Juan if you need them to. They charge for the trip but if you can get someone else to get an animal fixed and split the cost then it works out pretty economically.
Hey ya'll :)
Where is there a good vet in or near town??? Anyone that I can call for emergencies?
Carol M. replied:
Clinica Veterinaria Raymari in Managua (they also have a Facebook page). Have been taking our dog there for ten years....have no knowledge of a good veterinarian in or near SJDS.
Bonnie H. replied:
Carlos (vet from Managua) makes house calls here in SJDS on the weekends.....8383 1617...depends what it is; vets here are not trained to do surgery, so be careful if someone says he can....I've had great luck with Carlos
Elisha M. replied:
As my husband Gordon mentioned already we use Multivet in Granada. Much more convenient than going all the way to Managua, and of course closer in the event of an emergency situation. 2552-1890 multivetgranada@gmail.com You can read about our experience at Multivet by clicking on the link below: http://innicanow.com/2013/07/12/a-medical-emergency-with-maggie-mae/

I think World Vets is the organization you are thinking of Kelly. I just looked at their website for upcoming projects. They will be in Granada from October 11 - 18, but nothing is planned for San Juan del Sur. http://worldvets.org/volunteer/upcoming-projects/

Hi Cara Krott and Ginger Hackett I will send a private message with all the requirements including spanish translations, you can substitute Gato with Perro I typed this up for my friend who brought her cat. This was given to me by a USDA vet in San Francisco. Be sure to print this out and bring it incase your USDA vet doesn't speak Spanish so they have the english translations. She speicifically wrote on the letter she sent me that it is not required to be officiated by the Nicaraguan consulate. She did a bunch of research for me. Blessings. Can't wait to meet your pet!
Julie M. replied:
Dawn Noel - could I ask you to email that info to me too. We are coming back to Nica next month with our dog - julie@hipmum.com Thank you so much.

Dawn Constantine - you seem to have the most thorough information on animal requirements that I can find on the forum. We have guests coming in August and want to bring their little fur baby as well. Could you please email your valuable information to me as well so I could pass it on to our visitors? >>> the_empalme@hotmail.com ~ ~ many thanks in advance!
Does anyone know where the nearest emergency 24 hour vet is or someone that's on call (if that even exists in Nicaragua)? Extremely worried right now for my pup.

Hey! Is there a vet in town that writes your dog as an emotional support dog?
Elisha M. replied:
It is my understanding that you need a doctor or psychologist to complete the paperwork for emotional support animals. Katie Cassidy might be able to provide this service.
You can go to emotionalsupportanimals.com it's 100$ American and last 1 year
Michael R. replied:
Go to www.thedogtor.com You can do it all on line (evaluation test etc.) Pay your $$ and get a bonafide letter from an LA psychotherapist. We did this a few months ago. Got the letter and took our 30 lb dog in the cabin all the way to Nicaragua. Worked brilliantly.
Raina K. replied:
Emotional Support Animals and Service Dogs are very different identifications. From my experience, a family physician or psychologist that personally handles the patient is the only legally qualified person that can provide the ESA letter. Any online letter is illegal and you can be charged for using them if you get caught.
I thought I saw a post on here a while back about someone knowing of a Vet that would Spay and Neuter for free?

Debbie K. replied:
You can contact Faran Dometz on Facebook. It is not free but he makes house calls and he is very inexpensive compared to US vet prices. But a female spaying is going to be more than a male neutering as it is a more involved procedure. Glad to hear you want to take care of your kitty!
