Keto for epilepsy I (23M) from GA was diagnosed with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy two years ago, have been averaging one seizure about every 4 or 5 months. Since moving...

The keto diet was first used to treat epilepsy. I went on a deep dive with this years ago and read a lot of positive studies. When mothers have children with epilepsy who required a low carb diet, they often eat that diet as well. Weight loss became evident in the mothers treating their epileptic children with the diet. Now all we hear is keto being used to lose weight, but epilepsy is the reason it was employed by doctors in the beginning.

I have the exact same condition, very few seizures. Keto is great for managing it past even medication. Seizure free for 3 years

Have you tried that CBD? I have a friend who's daughter used to have a lot of seizures, they tried everything. Thier doctor finally told them a last ditch effort to try CBD. Since using its been way better. Maybe try both?

Originally, the Keto diet was used for epilepsy management and seizures control. Just like Banting, Keto is also a **low-carb high-fat diet**, but definitely a lot stricter compared to Banting. It is my understanding that this woe has been around since the 1800's for various ailments.

The diet has definitely lessened my petite and/or focal aware seizures. I think it has helped my more rare grand mals as well. I do take medication as well. If your in alaska have you tried a good CBD tincture?

I read that the Ketogenic diet to treat seizures goes back to the Roman or Greek empires. Maybe even further back, came across info a few years ago.

I don’t know enough about neurology to know how similar my circumstance is to yours, so take my comment with a grain of salt. I have post concussion syndrome from a car accident (permanent, it has been 3.5 years already) and recently started doing keto. I have been completely surprised that this diet has impacted many of the neurological symptoms I’ve struggled with for years that I had thought there was no help for. My brain feels markedly different on keto even though nothing else I’ve tried has helped before. I’d say that it’s at least worth a try. Good luck!

Probably the first medical use of keto way way back.

My coworkers two youngest were put on keto years ago. They had multiple seizures a week and the parents decided to try it since nothing else worked. The seizures decreased pretty quickly and stopped some time later. I think they transitioned to low carb after a few years.

It helped my epilepsy go to absolutely no seizures.

I have a friend whose son has severe epilepsy. His medical team put him on a Keto diet. But his Keto diet is not like what people do to lose weight. It is VERY controlled down to every, last morsel. He was required to be in-patient at a specialty center in a hospital for over a week to adjust it to the exact microgram of everything. There is no "eyeballing" it or ranges of anything for him. So, keto certainly won't hurt and may indeed help you. But just be aware that the medically prescribed keto diet for epilepsy is not the same as staying under a certain macro that most of us do.
