We had a good experience (albeit it was over 10 years ago) with the Quincy Animal Shelter. My brother and sister in law recently adopted an awesome dog from Survival Tails Animal Rescue in Hull..

Also Second Chance Animal Rescue on Martha's Vineyard has puppies most of the time.

If you don't mind what some see as an "ugly" dog..check FB page Sweet Blue needs a home. I have thought about this one.
We started on Petfinder and went through marys dogs https://www.facebook.com/MarysDogs/ They bring puppies up from down south- we love our mutt!

We adopted from Shultzes Guest House in Dedham. Check their website for available dogs. They were great!

At scituate animal shelter we have an older shepherd, a pit bull mix, a podengo, a senior chow, and a shy beagle if you're interested! You can check out their pictures and more info on www.scituateanimalshelter.org under adopt :)

Check out Northeast Amnimal Shelter in Salem, MA, You can look at all the available dogs on their website AND new puppies almost daily!! We adopted from there in September - lots of puppies, most from the South.. They have a first come-first served process - if you want details, just let me know. Good Luck!!
Suzanne C. replied:
Got Louie at Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem also. Nice, clean place. Have to get there right when they open the day the van comes up. Then you can go in and walk around and look for the type of dog you want. Call them first.

We adopted a great dog (we got her as a puppy) from Blue dog in Brockton. She had come up from Tennessee. We also used petfinder.com & adopted another puppy from a shelter down south. We didn't get to meet her first, which is risky. It worked out well for us, but don't think I would do that again.
Andrea A. replied:
We used New England lab rescue. Great puppy! New England Lab Rescue.

Also Greyhound Friends - they are way out in Hopkinson BUT the dogs are beautiful, generally calm, and like giant couch potatoes - they run around like crazy for 15 minutes and then sleep for about 5 hours in their bed.
